AAR weekend lineup - some highlights

Lately, I have been pleased with the quality of the AAR lineup on the weekends. The content still outpaces some of the hosts but the weekends are very enjoyable instead of the wasteland normally radio becomes on the weekends. One should take a listen to the following shows on AAR's weekend lineup:

Workin'It with Jackie Guerra - labor focused - the show normally turns out to be a informative and funny hour of interviews, interest stories, and comedy. The host is a comedian who is also a labor activist. She has a mixed appeal but generally does a good job keeping things moving ahead.

Free archives are available of past shows:

Ring of Fire with Robert Kennedy/Mike Papintonio - perhaps the best weekend show is woefully short two hours - but Mike and Robert have the best topical content of any liberal show on the weekend airwaves. Both hosts are top notch and should do more than 2 hours.

RadioNation with LauraFlanders - perhaps a close second behind ring of fire, Laura Flanders is not second when it comes to being the best host. She is the best host hands down on the weekend. Professional, warm, and always informed, Laura offers a great, diverse set of topics, great interviews, and great music as well.

Podcasts available of recent shows and interviews

State of Belief - the Reverend Welton Gaddy sounds about as stiff as a log and probably is as a bad a host as one can imagine but his content on religion from the progressive side is superior. If you can tolerate his delivery and listen to the interviews (which he actually does very well) and the stories broadcasted, the show turns out to be very informative and a very hearfelt look at the religious right, the religious left, and the state of religion in politics.

His show is also available for download....

Politically Direct - again dry host - David Bender - good content, sponsored by PFAW, the topics can cover the current political arena which can provide all sorts of great interviewws

take a listen, I think you will be pleasantly surprised....

Re: AAR weekend lineup - some reality

FTR:

Much of AAR's weekend line-up (like that of most talk stations) is brokered - bought and paid for. These programs are not produced by AAR but by the sponsoring group.

Talk radio does brokered programming on weekends because the audience is miniscule and brokered time is the only thing they can sell.

Who does RFK sound more like: Elmer Fudd, Morris the Cat, Droopy,or Snagglepuss? ;D

AAR doesn't sell infomercial time. Those are the affiliates, and even the big AM talk stations do it.

However, the network does air some original shows on Saturdays and Sundays. Off-hours, they air repeats of weekday shows on their satellite feed.

Pretty insensitive comment there. RFK Jr. suffers from a vocal disorder known as spasmodic dysphonia.

I didn't say many AAR weekend shows are infomercials; I said they are brokered. Various groups or organizations produce the shows and pay for the time.

People with speech impediments don't normally try to be radio announcers. :'(

OUCH!

Here's a great idea: let's let the blind guy drive the bus because he's really neat!

ROFLMAO! ::)

Who gives a flying flip if they are brokered, infomercials, etc......most weekend radio is not standard fare. I was trying to point out that the lineup that AAR has on their weekends is really good compared to what is out there. Compared to "The Movie Show", Id rather listen to "Ring of Fire". Its that simple, Fred.....

I was really plesantly surprised that I wanted to listen to the radio on the weekend and not hear a "best of".

Stations run "The Movie Show" or "Gardening with Ron" because for a few hours, it's easier to sell people who like gardening than people who just hate George Bush.

True, people who like George Bush have already shown they are an easy sell. Maybe that's the challenge for progressive talk: an audience that won't buy anything.
