Aaron Brown back on-air

Not earth shaking but former KIRO TV newser Aaron Brown is back on the air after 2 years off screen...DC based DCRTV has the poop.

I enjoyed Aaron while he was here in town. Always an awkward fit with the Bonneville TV boys but knew he was destined to move up and on... http://www.dcrtv.com/ Come to think of it, he was no more an odd duck than Wayne Cody!

Well, I think with Bonneville owning at least KIRO-AM here, I think Aaron Brown should now return to Seattle, even though the TV counterpart of KIRO-TV is now owned by Cox, and his other former stomping grounds at KING-TV are now owned by Belo, I think he could still make it back onto the TV airwaves here. I think, with how laid back he is, he could even land a job at Q13 FOX. He said he'd be back someday, and to keep Seattle available for him, back a long time ago (that video is on YouTube somewhere, from his last day at KIRO). I think this is a good time for him to come back home. What does everyone think?

Well, for those who didn't follow the link, Aaron is not YET back. But as of July he'll be hosting the PBS weekly series Wide Angle out of a station on the East Coast. For a guy we've been used to seeing nightly, that's not much of a work load .....

Two quotes from either coast .. from the DC-based website, Brown found his CNN cable work "an awkward fit"....and from Towerlamp above .. he was always "an awkward fit with the Bonneville TV guys....."

OK, so mebbe 'Lamp' was influenced by what he'd just read .. but if that 'awkwardness`translates to the truth both in Seattle and at CNN .. does this mean Aaron does not play well with others?

So, you're saying because the owner of one of the TV stations is back in town, but they don't own the TV station anymore, but they own radio, is the basis on which Brown should be back on Seattle TV?

Seriously?

Yep. With the exception if you're Hattie Kauffman.

AQH, not sure I get your reference to former KING reporter Hatti Kauffman. Aaron Brown did marry former KING reporter Charlotte Raynor.

I, too would like to see Brown back in Seattle. I think he would best fit at KING. He did seem out of place at KIRO.

While we are talking about former Seattle newscasters, ex-KIROer Brian Wood has landed back in the NW at KATU in Portland after years in Baltimore.

While I don't normally respond to personality notes on this board, the question about why Aaron is not a good fit here in Seattle can be summed up by the folks who commonly refer to him as "arrogant Aaron". This nickname has followed him everywhere throughout his long career wherever he has ended up. I think this nickname sums up exactly the way he is perceived both by many of his former co-workers and by the viewers at large.

It will be interesting to see how long he lasts at the Petroleum Broadcast Network!

Brown "allegedly" had a fling with Kauffman.

Not only that, but what's with this love affair with him? Just because he used to work in Seattle means he should be back?

Does anyone seriously think that managers or news directors think that way? "Oh, he used to be in Seattle, so let's dump our established news guy, and let's bring him back for old time's sake!"

Well, I can't speak for how he was off the air, but I disagree with you on his on-air work. He was one of the few serious, intelligent newscasters (and later commentator/interviewer at CNN). I would much rather watch him than most of the bubble brained pretty faces that exist on cable news networks today.

If the established news guy is not cutting it, you would hire the best replacement possible, yes. But familiarity to the viewers counts for something too.

Brown "allegedly" had a fling with Kauffman.

Boy, sounds like that KING newsroom was a pretty "happenin' place. ::)

I thought Brown liked her because it was well-known that Hattie had the best typewriter at KING (does anyone remember when Hattie "disappeared" for a while???)

Yes, I remember that somewhat vaguely. Seems there was a lot of mystery about it. Can't find anything on the web about it. (I suppose we are all allowed a few secrets...)

I think the problem with Brown is that he had a professorial, somewhat condescending aura about him with the camera. I think he should stick a fork in Seattle, 'cause we're done with him.

This popped up when I followed the Aaron Brown link.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xFQaYEVQhc8&feature=related

A looong (by today's standards) KING-TV piece about Terry McDonald getting trapped atop Mt Rainier stunting for KYYX. Some great shots of the KYYX studios and interview with Bob Bingham. A young Jean Ennerson and Mike James at the anchor desk...enjoy. Would TV ever in this day & age give that much screen time to a radio station? How the times (and hair-dos) have changed!

Seattle will be lucky to have Aaron Brown back again. Till then -- you can listen to Kim Mariner -- at night reading news on KNX 1070 from Los Angeles.
