ABC 6 Anchors

Any news as to when April O'Dell and Wendy Cicchetti will return to ABC 6. I know they are both on maternity leave, but are either of them returning? Doreen Scanlon and Melissa Mahan seem like they have replaced them.

If nobody watches 6, does anyone care if they play musical anchors?

Funny isn't it? Nobody seems to watch "We're Last and Not Entertaining" but we all seem to talk about it. The new owners are the same as the old ones it appears.

I was watching "An Hour With Bob" a few weeks back. Melissa Mahan was one of the guests. From some of the questions Bob posed to Melissa. One could get the impression Melissa has her eyes on working in another market.
And thats fine. However, I do enjoy April O'Dell with Walter Cryan better.

I sure wish that they would let me into that place so I could experiment with some ideas. The way I look at it they really don't have anything to lose. When you are already at the bottom, there is only one direction to go from there.

I've heard that Walter Cryan, April O'Dell, and Ed Hart (news director) are out!

I assume this means that the new ownership, Global Broadcasting has indeed taken control of the longest running joke in Southern New England broadcasting.

What a sad way for Walter Cryan's career to end.

Well, they could always hire Dave Layman, Ann Conway, and John Ghiorse back. :D :D :D

They didn't make a splash in the 80's. Maybe they could make a splash in the late 00's!!!

Well at least Magee Hickey is doing OK.

Yes......She's come a long......long way from that early 80's "expose" she did for Channel 6, where she went undercover as a hooker to highlight the problem of Prostitution in Providence.

It has been announced today that Edwin Hart and Walter Cryan are out at WLNE, and the new management at Global Broadcasting has officialy taken ownership as of Tuesday.

Thats awful about Walter & April ODell. April would make a good fit at WJAR/WPRI. It would nice seeing Walter back at WPRI. Even if its p/t. By the way Amy Deluca has returned to WPRI. She is anchoring The Saturday morning show.

Walter Cryan is still shown on their web site.

Regardless of the wisdom of such changes, it's good to see a station owned by a small company (this is Global Broadcasting's first station) instead of one of the giant companies.

Yes, their website is out-of-date. However, there is a detailed article on projo.com, stating that Ed Hart was let go and Walter Cryan retired (his contract had an out if Ed was let go).

If Global Broadcasting wanted to do something really smart, they would do well to get thier hands on a radio station in the market.

Having a "WLNE Radio" using the news-gathering resources of Channel 6 would make for great cross-promotional synergy that could do nothing but help.

There just happens to be ONE silent 50 Kilowatt AM station in the market......Are you listening, Global Broadcasting?? ;)

The VP/GM and the News Director where both released by Freedom (obviously on behalf of Global) as they were terminated prior to the close of the sale of the station.

Walter Cryan
He was not fired, he had an option in his contract that if either the VP/GM or the News Director leave the station he could end his contract. This was the case, Walter is good friends with Ed Hart and was bought back because of Ed. Honestly I'm surprised it lasted as long as it did.

April O'Dell
From what I've been able to find out, April O'Dell did not want to return from her maternity leave only to be let go a couple weeks later (if that was to happen) her contract has since lapsed.

Website updates
A simple whois.net search shows that Freedom is still the domain holder.
The site still lists the copyright as Freedom Communications.
If you look at the page source code you will see that parts of the code targets freedom.com which is Freedom Communications website.

I wasn't aware that Channel 6 had news-gathering resources of any kind. :D :D :D

As with any ownership change, I think we all hope for a complete makeover. Especially in the case of ABC 6. New anchors, new set, new music. New station logo. I would like to see new EVERYTHING! If a major player such as the network of ABC itself actually purchased the station, than I think a lot of those changes would happen. But with a tiny little company purchasing the station, I have my doubts about if they can afford to change anything. We'll have to wait and see.
