ABC 7 News in Letterbox

I'm not sure if someone screwed up the rebroadcast, but Channel 7's news repeat is in letterbox format in SD. On the camera shots, I can see the wide HD framing. The commercials go back to regular SD format.
 
I thought this was an isolated incident too, but KTRK is also doing the same thing. It must be system-wide then. At first the bug was too big to fit on all my TV's lower-right corners. Then for the past few days, they moved it and reduced the size. It's so-so now, it fits on some TV's; on the others not really. On the afflicted TV's, I can barely read out the minutes of the time.
 
I've seen more newscasts since my first post. The live shows are in 4:3, but the rebroadcast the other night was again in 16:9 format. (on SD TVs)
