ABC and JACK

From R&R:

ABC Gets Network Rights To JACK-FM

ABC Radio Networks has inked an exclusive deal with SparkNet Communications to develop and market the Jack-FM radio format for national distribution. Under the agreement, ABC Radio Networks will have the exclusive rights to create, market and sell a fully produced and locally integrated broadcast of Jack-FM to stations across the country, beginning on Oct. 1.

"We are very excited to be working with SparkNet Communications to offer Jack-FM in a turn-key package," said ABCRN President Jim Robinson. "This unique product will enable station owners and operators to create new marketing opportunities for their advertising partners."

Nothing really shattering here. They VT most of their other networks.

This is really BAD news:

Can you imagine all of the small and medium market GM's that will trample each other to be able to grab the hot brand name in variety hits/jockless formats? Just to be able to slice the airstaff cost from the budgets. If you thought consolidation was bad for employment.....

Another interesting thought: Now that ABC has the intellectual property for Jack, what stops the KSCS/Twister guys from peeking at KJKK's game plan, research, etc?

I doubt that it will make any difference in small market employment -- its generally just going to replace another satellite-delivered or voice-tracked format in the markets where it comes on.

Not true. Most of the formats are live 24/7.

Their "stardust" is not except for mornings. Their oldies and Classic rock are done the same way among others.

Dear Mr. Murrow,

It's indeed a pleasure to have someone of your
journalistic caliber with us. Too bad about those damn cigarettes.
Today's reporters can certainly learn from your the standards you set,
which apparently have been forgotton, or never learned in succeeding
generations. However, your facts are a little off, but not entirely
incorrect. The Oldies format at ABC is live around the clock. The
majority of the formats are live around the clock. A few are voice
tracked, but only in some dayparts.
