ABC/Citadel rumor

A post on the Dallas board cites a NY Times article says ABC Radio could be sold to Citadel. WEAE is the only ABC property in the Burgh, I know they operate 540 but I think Birach still owns it.

I could see one of two outcomes here: Citadel wouldn't likely want to operate a standalone AM in this market, so wither they'd want to talk to Renda, Saul and/or Keymarket about additional acquisitions, or they'd just dump 1250. Could we see CC dump 970 in favor of 1250? (Madden and Savran on the same station would be ugly, and therefore great radio...)
______________

I think it would be an all out war between Savran and Madden on 1250AM, if they decided to dump 970. I would love it though. I would put Savran on in the afternoons and team him up with his former co worker Guy Junker. I would put Madden on at night. Tim Benz would be good in the morning. I guess we will have to see what happens.

Savran and Madden were on WEAE for awhile

And Savran jumped to Fox 970.

Actually, I don't know how likely that is to happen. You're asking a lot- and to be honest I think both the tunes of Madden and Savran have been played.

I can see where Clear Channel would want the 1250 signal. But I think Savran would probably just get out of the business and run for Congress- and to be honest I could see Clear Channel not wanting to be associated with Madden. The strip joints and beer companies are going to buy time on sports radio whether he is on the air or not.

Tim Benz, also, is not exactly who I'd want in my mornings. If I want whiny sarcasm I'll listen to Alan Cox.

Based on what they each make, Madden would have to go to AM drive, and then we'd be into another "protect the mothership" conversation about DVE and 25-54 males.
______________

Re: Savran and Madden were on WEAE for awhile

Madden and Savran played nice when they were on the same station. Stan pretended he didn't think Madden was a contemptible slob and Madden pretended he didn't think Savran was 20 miles over the hill.

Madden would flop in the mornings. He's not strong enough to get a lot of people to change their morning habit.
