ABC considering a "TV Everywhere" app

http://www.tvnewscheck.com/article/65746/abc-floats-tv-everywhere-plan-to-affiliates

Just as Disney launched the "Watch" apps for ESPN, Disney Channel, Disney XD, and Disney Junior, the company is considering one for ABC. Not only would you able to see the network's video-on-demand programming, but you watch the linear version as well; in other words, you could see your ABC station's programming air as it happens just like in the traditional sense.

And just like Watch ESPN, Watch Disney Channel, and others, you would have to subscribe to a participating TV service provider in order to get Watch ABC, if it does comes into fruition. No timeframe has been set has set, but if ABC can work out agreements among its affiliate station groups (and in turn, if the affiliates can work out additional rights with syndicators), the app should launch within a year from now.

What if you're travelling? Does the clear as a bell reception of KOMO Seattle on your smartphone magically turn into KATU once getting into the Portland TV market?

Just yet another reason why I'm glad I'll never own such a device. What's the point? If I want to stare at the television, I'll just stay home!

"And just like Watch ESPN, Watch Disney Channel, and others, you would have to throw away more of your hard-earned grocery/petrol money to a participating pay-TV monopoly in order to get Watch ABC."

Total waste of money, in other words.

Call 911 because there are at least 150 people who need to be revived at the affiliates meeting.

ABC gets it. At least someone does. I can't tell you how badly I wish my cable company would negotiate a deal for WatchESPN.

Now back to your regularly scheduled geezer thread.

Or ask it this way...

If you're in the Mountain Time Zone, will you have to wait an hour to watch the shows?

Here's a question for the Suits:

There are exactly two, 2, shows I watch on ABC. Neither one I would watch mobile.

Still want to spend all that money?

Oh.....wait.....I'm out of the prime demo. <nevermind>

I'm an IT administrator. Today I was working at a branch location, waiting on updates to install on a machine, so to pass the time I pulled up my TiVo over Slingplayer mobile on my iPhone and caught up on shows. Not everyone has a TiVo or a Slingbox... ABC wants to fill that gap.

Or, you know, the stations could just adopt the Mobile DTV standard.

This is getting ridiculous. When will owners of major TV networks and their affiliates realize that they don't own just another cable channel that happens to have disproportionately low rights fees?

"Or, you know, the stations could just adopt the ATSC/MH standard."

Yeah, there's a thought.

Probably won't happen to any significant degree, though. Royaltie$ will bury it FAST.

Am I the only one that finds the irony of ABC developing "watch" apps after recently launching their line of "alarm clock" apps? :p
