ABC expands Good Morning America

After months of rumors and speculation, they have expanded, somewhat.

Beginning today, ABC launched Good Morning America-Now. This third hour airs from 9-10 am Eastern on ABC's broadband website, ABC News Now.

Now the big question is: Is this a test run for expanding GMA on ABC broadcast to compete with the now four hour long Today show?

Adding a third hour of GMA would be hard for ABC as many of its affiliates air LIVE! with Regis and Kelly from 9AM-10AM (which is produced from the network's flagship station, WABC-TV in New York), and they get great ratings.

That's true, as that's what some NBC stations do with the third hour of Today show by airing it at 10.

Not a bad idea, but there's no room for it on WSOC without them selling the rights to R&K, Dr. Phil, or Oprah. Dr. Phil has to be the show that eventually succeeds Oprah at 4 on that channel.
