Couldn't there be some way for Disney to phase off ABC Family(which has the interfering and money-losing for Disney contractual obligation to run The 700 Club), in replace of something else?
Here was what I was thinking:
-Move 7th Heaven, Gilmore Girls and Smallville reruns to SoapNet.
-When negotiating with the MSOs like Comcast, have SoapNet replace ABC Family where SoapNet moves down to the lower tiers, ABC Family to the more expensive tiers.
-The kiddy shows could move to Disney.
-Disney starts a new cable channel; a fragmented niche channel.
-What's left would be a very weak ABC Family. MSO's later given option to replace ABC Family with the new channel, offered at discount.
-ABC Family shuts down or becomes an online entity only (like Trio); Disney retools the new channel and becomes more mainstream (like FX).
Contractual obligation for The 700 Club no longer relevant.
