Today's USA Today reports a huge surge in viewership
for ABC's World News Tonight last week. ABC ended
NBC's 57-week run at number one, with an average of
8.9 million viewers for the week; NBC averaged 8.2
million; CBS, 6.3 million. Monday's (August 8) broadcast of
WNT was watched by 10.5 million viewers, the broadcast's
best August numbers since 1998. And Wednesday's two-hour
tribute to Jennings got 9.4 million viewers, easily winning
its time slot (but wasn't rated since it was unsponsored).
Also, "The Peter Jennings Collection," a two-disc DVD, will
be released October 18. It consists of six prime-time specials
which aired over the last two years. Some of you may be interested
in that as a way to preserve a portion of Jennings' work.
