It's your age (I'm 54) . But I do think that Dick Clark should be given more air time (that is if he is physically up to it).Otherwise, stop calling it the Dick Clark New Year's Rockin' Eve

Watched the whole thing from the prime time show right through to the very end. Dick did his best, as usual, sounding a bit better than a year or two ago but still struggling. I'm sure, though, that he is a great example for stroke survivors. The camera cut to him right after the countdown and it looked like either he was spitting or possibly crying and trying to control himself. Also, Dick finally got to the countdown about 10 seconds after the countdown started on-screen. And he started with "Ok, are you ready? Are you ready? Ok, you ready?'" and then got through the final 10-15 seconds. His presence is minimal in that half hour, does the countdown, kisses Mrs. Clark, welcomes Seacrest into the studio a few minutes past midnight, they chat, Seacrest kisses Dick's feet, and then Dick disappears for another year.

Seacrest did fine, does his thing, collects his paycheck, and then heads back to preparing for American Idol next month.

The entertainment in New York was barely that. Kesha was rude and crude and looked horrible. And when Seacrest asked her what her resolution was, she said "to not be a ******bag". Very nice. Something tells me she won't be invited back on ABC anytime soon. The Backstreet Boys and the New Kids (New Men?) were useless although the chicks in the audience seemed to swoon. ::) Willow "my dad is Will Smith" Smith was my least favorite.

Roving street reporter Jenny McCarthy looked terrific and did a great job. She didn't completely overdo it and reminded me of roving street reporter Kelly Pickler from a couple of years ago although Kelly yelled everything and Jenny didn't. Bit of a sound issue when Seacrest was talking to her from the studio and you could tell Jenny couldn't even hear him.

Got a little annoyed with the 155 airings of the Jennifer Hudson Weight Watchers commercials.

Fergie looked great. See ya next year.

Well it IS his show and I THINK he and/or his company produces it. Therefore it's Dick Clark's New Years Rockin Eve. Physically, he could probably withstand more airtime. Speechwise, I doubt it. You could tell he struggles now and if he talks for more than a minute or two at a time, his speech gets a bit worse. His presence is limited during that half hour and will remain the same until he retires or ABC forces him out and that would be a public relations disaster if they did that.

Dick Clark is 81.
Guy Lombardo did his last New Year's Eve broadcast at 74.
Ben Grauer was 68.

Dick Clark has been doing New Year's shows since 1960 (although early on he was in the WFIL-TV studio from which Bandstand originated, not Times Square). 40 years is the record. And eventually everyone ages, even Dick Clark.

Why did you refer to two persons by first name only, one person by last name only, and one person by courtesy title and last name in the same post? You could have just stated their first and last names first and referred to them by just their first names afterwards?

Mario, I really don't know why I chose to do it that way, sir. Is there a problem Mr. 500??

Yes, I found the references inconsistent and the way you continued to refer to Ryan Seacrest by his last name only without ever mentioning his first name disrespectful.

No one is forcing you to read my or anyone else's posts, Mr. 500, sir. If you and your good friend Seacrest don't like it, you can both go elsewhere. Ok, Mario buddyboy?? ;D

Then you'll absolutely cringe at the way I refer to him--
"Ryan Watercress" (as in bland, vanilla). ;D

I can't watch Dick Clark too depressing. There is something about the man I have always appreciated. Ryan Seacrest and Carson Daily just don't seem to have it.

I guess you were better off with Anderson Cooper and Kathy Griffin over on CNN, huh?

Anyway, the ABC station here in Alaska resumed New Year's Rockin' Eve at 10:30 pm this time (instead of delaying it to the usual 11:30), which meant that not only Dick Clark gave us a one-hour head start, it would be off to NBC and Carson Daly when midnight officially approached.

But whatever, at least we had three chances to watch the ball drop: Live at 8:00 on CNN, at 11:00 on ABC, and finally at midnight on NBC!

ESPN also showed it live during a show about quarterbacks or something. I couldn't really tell what the show was about because the TV at the bar was muted, but Jerry Rice was on it at some point.

I recorded Dick Clark's show on my new DVR as I wasn't home last night. I thought he did a great job as usual. Carson does great too
IMO, but I prefer Dick Clark. I guess since I'm a bit younger, I was okay with the peformances.

Anyone watched MTV's NYE special? ;D

For those outside the Eastern Zone, did the stations show the network specials live or did they delay it to make you think it was live at Midnight your time?

I believe ESPN had scheduled to air one of those jumps or tricks that they usually show on New Year's Eve. But something happened with that and it was canceled, so they put on filler programming.

As for Dick, yes he still struggles, and he really hasn't shown too much improvement with his speech since returning to the show on 12/31/06. I am very surprised he has been on five broadcasts since the stroke. His health in general must be in decent shape. It seems like most of his words are fairly clear but once in a while he does mumble. I still give him a lot of credit for going on there, and I am sure it gives him something to look forward to each year. The majority of people would probably fade away, yet Dick keeps on going. You do have to wonder if ABC will be the one to push him out at some point, although they did win the ratings game on Friday night, so it's not like they have a reason to do so except for any embarrassment they might think he's bringing on himself.

I remember along time ago there was another show that competed with Dick Clarks Eve show.the special ran from 11.30pm est to 3.30 am ,for they can get the west coast live I forgot who carried it at the time which it was the late 80's or the 90's.I do remember recording the show.I think it was a cable station that had the 4 hour special.anyway I did record the other channels which had aNew Years eve shows. but I forgot the CNN show.On the radio side I catch the WSM radio's New Years Eve at the Ryman.

Of course you do know that he signs off the air by saying "Seacrest out", don't you?

Yeah, that's right, so he's as disrespectful to himself as everyone else is. :D
