ABC News/Paul Harvey KFMB issue.

Hi Gang,

I'd like to clarify some misinformation about Paul Harvey and ABC. As I understand it, KFMB does not have play ABC News updates in order to carry Paul Harvey, they simply need to agree to play back barter spots from ABC News, that can be pre-recorded. In fact, not only that, but it is also possible for a Fox News network station to play Paul Harvey. Here in Lubbock, the AM station I used to work for had Fox News, AP News and ABC News at simultaneously at one point. What made them switch was a deal between the cross town CCU and ABC, which made them take back Paul Harvey. Not that it mattered, because Paul Harvey could not make any money on our station. Nobody cared to buy spots (trust me, I tried).

So, out here, it's actually the AM station that remains ABC, while the non-CCU locally held AM is Fox News.

Also, as I understand it, there is no reason why KFMB can no longer be CBS News and have Paul Harvey. This is also being done in markets by CBS O & O's like WBZ, which have both ABC and CBS .

So, how do KFMB and KOGO sound on the first day of this new era?

Except for O'Reilly, I seldom listen to KFMB since they dumped Colmes. But they did start up the Paul Harvey stuff last week. I haven't heard Fox News on KOGO. Can't say when that's schedule.

I still say: FIRE DAVE SNIFF

Unfortunately KOGO's newscasts now are basically rip-and-read from AP. Overall without an established network news, KOGO sounds really naked and doesn't have a real direction, IMHO.

Everybody knows it is all about money, but from a programming sense and as an information source, going with Fox News Channel as their network just has not made sense to me. I'm not going to get into a discussion about their politics, but they just lack credibility. Taking sound bites out of their overlong drawn out news reports just doesn't cut it.

UPDATE: I stand corrected

After my initial post on this, I read on KOGO's web site where they claim that indeed they MUST run ABC News in order to be allowed to broadcast Paul Harvey. This would seem to be a change in policy from what I understand regarding barter agreements.

However, I still don't understand why KOGO can not keep ABC and just run it periodically.

In any case, I am orry, if my thread caused any confusion. I now return you to your empty control room...
