ABC News reporter gaffe mixes Iraq with birth control

So the reporter is giving a story about Iraqi "IED"s (Improvised Explosive Devices) via WBAP today, but keeps calling them "IUD"s (Intra-Uterine Device, used for birth control.) Dan Potter came to the rescue after the story, clarifying that the issue was indeed about I-"E"-D's. Of course, an IUD could feasibly stop the Iraqis from giving birth to a new generation of insurgents, and I guess an implanted IED would stop a woman from EVER giving birth again...so maybe there was indeed some truth there!!

I guess the traffic reporter should have done his job afterwards, warning people to stay out of the "H-I-V" lane on LBJ.

Elsewhere in the news, it was a challenging weekend for fill-in anchors on Fox, MSNBC, and CNN attempting to wade through the names of newsmakers,

Slobodan Milosevic was reported variously as slow-BOW-den MILE-oh-seh-vick,
SLOW-bahden MILL-ah-so-veach, to other mangled pronunciations. Granted, not a name like Smith or Jones, but proper pronunciation and credible delivery are "anchors" stock in trade.

Seems as if most on-air people have mastered Joran Vandersloot, save the one unnamed soul who referred to him as urine van-der-slot.

Cronkite would probably remark, "And that's the way they are.">
