I remember that primary NBC station WGEM in Quincy used to air at least one ABC soap opera. But then I also heard that CBS station KHQA used to air some ABC programs, too--if this is true, what were they?
For many years, WGEM aired "All My Children." I also remember WGEM airing the ABC Daytime version of "Family Feud" way back when. WGEM had maintained a secondary ABC affiliation from the time they signed-on till the mid-'90s or so when they finally dropped "All My Children." WGEM's secondary ABC affiliation was yanked by ABC for a time in 1987-88 after KTVO (ABC) in Kirksville fired up its 2000-foot tower near Colony, Mo, effectively covering most, if not all, of the Quincy market. KTVO's big tower fell in 1988 and the station returned to their 1000-ft. stick at Lancaster. WGEM resumed airing "All My Children" a time after that...don't remember the time frame.
KHQA also had a secondary ABC affiliation in the 1960's. According to http://www.brainmist.com/wjjy_tv/wjjy_tv.htm, KHQA aired some ABC programming opposite "The Tonight Show." According to the website, the shows aired included "77 Sunset Strip" and "Hawaiian Eye," among others. KHQA lost its secondary ABC affiliation when WJJY-TV (ABC) in Jacksonville, Ill. went on the air in 1969. I assume WGEM also ceased to air ABC shows at that time, as well. WJJY-TV went dark in 1970. I don't believe any ABC programming actually returned to KHQA (but may have), but WGEM obviously aired some ABC material after that. I can also remember WGEM airing "Starsky & Hutch," I believe at 10:30PM on Sunday nights. I don't remember if they carried the show for its entire run. WGEM may have carried some other ABC shows, as well, in the 1970's, but I was just a kid then and I don't remember.
Well, for all those of you who can remember, what were all the programs that were on KHQA? And what was the primary time on those programs (on primary ABC affiliates)?
