ABC Pulls Jimmy Kimmel Live

I smell a huge lawsuit against Disney.
During his monologue Monday, Kimmel raised the possibility that the alleged assassin Tyler Robinson might have been a pro-Trump Republican.

“The MAGA Gang (is) desperately trying to characterize this kid who murdered Charlie Kirk as anything other than one of them and doing everything they can to score political points from it,” Kimmel said.
Kimmels out for blood now. He won’t let this slide at ABC.

Technically it could be wrongful termination. So a lot more than it’s worth.
All those network contracts have clauses about everything from off-air behaviour and remarks to content on the air. And most send any disputes to arbitration. In this case, if what Kimmel said was provably wrong at the moment he said it, then the contract's suspension or cancellation clauses would likely hold up in arbitration.

The network and the affiliate station owners are, ultimately, those who make the decisions, not the talent. There is no "freedom of speech" on a privately owned TV web or its affiliates.

Worth more the keeping station licenses?
This is the heart of the issue. The FCC commissioner making not-so-veiled threats over speech that in no way violates any FCC regulation.

Let’s set aside for just a moment the person being mourned is described by nearly all of his fans as a fierce defender of free speech, and more speech, not less. The irony here is astounding.

This is not normal. This is dangerous. When the head of the regulatory agency can threaten unfounded, unjustified action against members of the press, we are knee-deep in fascism. The media is being de facto taken over by threats if they won’t fall in line.

Here is an Update Nexstar has ordered its ABC affiliates to pre-empt Jimmy Kimmel.

The Worst Case Scenario I was thinking was KABC-TV getting hit by the FCC directly given that the Jimmy Kimmel show is filmed in Los Angeles and Disney's main office is in Burbank.

The networks didn’t decide anything. The FCC chairman threatened it.

I assume ABC will move Nightline up to its old 11:35 ET slot temporarily (until they make a final decision on keeping JKL on the schedule), and then affiliates will go to syndicated programming afterwards. Much like the era when ABC wasn't using the midnight timeslot (pre-Politically Incorrect).

BTW, his talking points on the Charlie Kirk assassin have been debunked by the Utah County Sheriff, Gov. Cox, and the FBI. I won't say anything more as it would violate the RadioDiscussions TOS (political discussion).

This is going to create massive boycotts against ABC.

SAG-Aftra will be getting involved. And that’s not what Disney wants.

Have they shown proof or just hearsay.
