ABC Radio Sale

Last night Gene Burns said ABC Radio has narrowed the sale of KGO & the rest of it's radio stations down to three companies. What company will win and would they dare change the #1 station for twenty-six years: KGO?

My guesses of bidders are:

Emmis
Entercomm
Citadal

> I'm sure that was a rhetorical question, but I'll ask the obvious. Wouldn't changing what is arguably the most popular talk station ever - anywhere rank among the stupidest ideas moves in radio history? Only Young Broadcasting could be that stupid, and they probably aren't in the running. Though for my taste, they could cashier Ed Baxter...

Yes it was a rhetorical qustion. I highly doubt Young Broadcasting could afford ABC Radio, unless they sold all assests. If they were, they surly try changing KGO to a country station. They're that stupid!

If/When KGO is sold, will they have to give up the heritage call letters, since there would still be a KGO-TV owned by ABC?

Young isn't in the radio biz.

I don't think so, unless the new owners want new calls. Remember ABC wants to sell the radio division.

And what sources did Gene Burns cite as the basis of his comment?

There's a thread about Sirius buying ABC assets on the national Coast to Coast board which began after a Wall Street Journal article cited "industry buzz."

As one poster there observed... that's just another way of saying "rumor has it."

There are other threads about the supposed sale... all citing... rumor.

And in googling "ABC Radio for sale" all the links it brings up have no facts to report, just rumor or speculation... attributed at various points to investment banks or bankers, "sources" or people offering no hard facts. Especially from ABC or Disney.

And this kind of stuff... unverified rumor... has been going on for a couple of months, now.

Kinda like WMD, don't ya think?

Or as one person re-titled a thread about the initial WSJ report: "Bad journalism."

One place to keep an eye on might be the SEC filing system. If there is going to be some movement, it might appear there first.

Or the ABC and Disney corporate websites' PR or stockholders info sections.

Ted.

> Remember ABC wants to sell the radio division.

Okay, no more about this until there is something other than "industry buzz" to confirm (or deny) that ABC really is looking at offers.

Thanks.

You know, kind of like the people who post here who want KMEL to co Country, KOIT to go heavy metal, claim everybody's going to go "Jack" by September, and talk about how dead KDFC is because they lost a tenth of a rating point last month.

Re: ABC Radio Sale--supposed, rumored but not confirmed, sale that is

All Gene Burns said was "Disney has narrowed it down to three companies". I don't work due to a disability. I'm just a listener.
