ABC "Stopped Advertising Path to 9/11; May Yank It" Reports Variety

The ABC "docudrama" Path to 9/11 is still generating a huge amount of controversy from both left and right wingers who are upset with it. ABC has had more than 50,000 complaints thus far, and now former Clinton officials in the last hour are petitioning 9/11 Commission members, including Governor Kean who worked on the project, to sever all ties and tell ABC to yank it:

The political angle on all of this is found in Off the Air, but with respect to the broadcasting side of it, we may have the next example of The Reagans, illustrating why TV networks do these kinds of docudramas about sensitive political matters at their peril. ABC doesn't have sponsors for this production, as it was to have aired commercial-free. ABC had a conflict on 9/11 anyway as the president is scheduled to speak while this was to have been on the air. It might be part of their excuse if they do yank it.

I've been critical of some of the reaction from some allegedly-intelligent members of Congress (notably Sen. Harry Reid) and their overblown overreation to this, but it's never a good idea to produce a MFTV movie (and that's really what this is, only longer) that "enhances" facts with dramatization, especially one about a subject as serious as 9/11.

This has been one giant goat**** for all concerned, the biggest fools being ABC and a few Democratic Senators (see the Off The Air board for details on that). I'm surprsed Al Gore hasn't put his two-cents in since all this hot air is sure to increase global warming. ;D

As for me, I'll be watching football on Sunday and Monday nights.

Since ABC is set to yank it, I suspect it will probably come out sooner or later, someone will probably post it on Youtube. Controversy only brings curiosity...

I have seen WWII pictures made during the war or shortly after and they are no way historically accurate.

As long as they say and make it CLEAR that it is a DRAMA based on the facts and it is NOT a documentary, I don't see a problem.

Very few movies TV or theatrical or even plays are marginally accurate. That is what writing is take the truth and make it entertaining.

Again as long as you clearly state this is in no way 100% factual it should be aired as such.

...hell, even Harvey Keitel, the star of the thing, has been publicly questioning the accuracy of it. I see Amy Madigan is involved in it too; surprised to not hear anything from her, too, on the discrepancies, considering her family has long been involved in Illinois (mainly Democratic) politics, her father was a frequent panelist to "Meet the Press" in the '50s and 60s, and the 9/11 attacks took place on her 51st birthday...
