Anyone have any info on the old ABC Talkradio network. This was supposedly a network service when 77 went talk in 82. Any airchecks available? What was the lineup? I remember a shrink in pm drive.!?!, and an english guy in the afternoon. Any info appreciated.

I think an affiliate was KGO-FM (103.7) in San Francisco. They dropped the Rock KSFX format the station was doing and used the station as a 'storefront' for the network. Think they even had a number you could call up and hear the station on (no web then, heh). Then they sold KGO-FM off. If you're thinking an English guy, I'm guessing Michael Jackson, as that would be someone that was on KABC around that time. Same name as, yeah, you know who but someone else. I'm working on memory and guess here....I'm gonna need help as I'm interested in knowing too...Maybe Dean Edell and Rush figured into this somewhere down the line as well but I could be working on guess and faded memory here.

Owen Spann (from San Fran) 10am-12noon
Michael Jackson (from LA) 2-4pm
Dr. Toni Grant (from LA) 4-6pm

I believe their were two network shows on the overnight as well.

ABC Talkradio began in 1982, much of the programming came from KABC, Los Angeles, and KGO, San Francisco. Although I don't think those stations actually ran any of the network programs. I think the local hosts did a seperate network show.

I found a lineup for the network from about 1985...

Mon-Fri:
10-12 Dr. Susan Forward
12-2pm Owen Spann
2-4pm Michael Jackson
4-6pm Dr. Toni Grant
12mid-3am Ira Fistell
3-8am Ray Briem

Sat:
10-11am Leon Kaplan, automotive
11-12noon Tom Shorall, attorney
12noon-1pm Ralph Snodsmith, gardening
1-3 pm Dr. Lawrence Walter, child psychologist
3-4pm Bob Fitzsimmons
4-7 pm Dr. Dean Edell

Sun:
10-11am Bob Fitzsimmons
11-12noon Ralph Snodsmith, gardening
12noon-1pm Dr. Malcolm Kram, veterinarian
1-2pm Al Ubell, home repair
2-4pm Dr. Robert Atkins, nutrition
4-7pm Bill Bresnan, financial

Although Limbaugh was never a part of ABC Talkradio, his show used the two hours on the satellite noon-2pm after ABC cancelled Owen Spann's network show. And Rush couldn't add a third hour until Michael Jackson's network show was cancelled.

In 1982 when ABC Talk Radio began in new York, Dr. Susan Forward was not heard. It began with Owan Spann at 10 AM. I believe Dr. Forward was added to the lineup later on.

When did Gordon Elliot and Barry Farber come in? Was Alan Colmes part of the network? I know he had a local show for a while.

I don't know about Gordon Elliot. But Farber and Colmes were on DayNet (not to be confused with NBC and WW1's Talknet.)

Dammit...

My first gig back in the late 80's was running board for the ABC Talkradio programming at a small Florida radio station. At the time I had found a reel with all the music cues that were produced for ABC Talkradio and had dubbed them to cassette.

Does anyone here have those themes? I'd love to have a copy of those again.

Peace,

If you find a copy, let me know. I'd also love to have a copy of those!

That station didn't happen to be WPSO/1500 out in New Port Richey, eh?? Think they were listed as an affiliate before the Greeks bought it.
