ABC TO ENTERCOM A "DONE DEAL"?

Sources close to the pending sale of ABC Radio tell R&R that Entercom will likely emerge as the victorious bidder for its assets. Insiders tell R&R that an official announcement regarding the sale of Disney-owned ABC Radio could come as early as today. No further details were available at press time. Disney has said that the Radio Disney and ESPN Radio assets will not be included in any divestment scenarios.

First thing they need to do is change the Twister and upgrade their transmitter

They are already at 90kW and 2039', I wonder what you would propose to do upgrade that?

Granted - a format change would be welcome. They are just one more country station that isn't on my presets now.

Newstalk 820/96.7, WBAP.....

It has been the trend in some other markets to go bring some of the talkers over to the FM side. Especially when that FM station is either a rimshot or an underperformer, and I believe the Twister is both of the above.

The younger generation barely realizes that AM exists. I think a move like this could only help WBAP.

I am glad that Entercom is the likely suitor for ABC.. Had Cumulus gotten it, I think the quality of radio in the market would have gone down with them owning both country stations, both sports stations, two out of three talkers... That would not have been a good situation for the listening public..

WBAP 820/96.7, I wouldn't surprise me if that happened. Look at Entercom station KFH in Wichita, KS. They simulcast a Hot Talk format on 1240 and 98.7, even though 98.7 has a decent signal in that covers Wichita pretty well they wouldn't have to simulcast on FM, they can pick a different format if they wanted to.

Back to the subject, would Entercom purchase the ABC Radio Networks with addition to ABC O & O stations or ABC still hold on to the networks? I'm hearing from different sources that whoever buys the ABC O & O stations would also buy the radio network and ABC would hold on to Radio Disney and ESPN Radio. I was hoping that Emmis would purchase the stations, but I guess Entercom would be a little bit better than Cumulus.

News/Talk? How about they do something that isn't happening in the market, like a good AAA.

Wonder if there will be any change in the rightwing hate
talk on their stations? Just trying to listen to WBAP today
for local weather information made me sick. Had to endure Mark Davis talking
about how the revelations of the past few weeks looked like
the final end for the DEMOCRATIC party. Then a "Rush Minute"
promo where Limbaugh was quoting war hero John Murtha using a
mincing lisping "Liberace" imitation.
