ABC WBBJ JACKSON, TN. ADDS CBS TO 7.3 IN JAN.

So this should make it where Jackson has all of the big 4 networks once WBBJ picks up CBS on 7.3 and WZMC-LP comes on with NBC. (I actually got the call letters right this time! :D)

I have several questions about this though: Will WBBJ do like they've done with ABC, and claim exclusive rights to CBS and block WREG in Memphis, like they have with WPTY? Also are they still going to waste 7.2 with nothing but the same programming as 7.1 with SAP audio or a message to tune in to 7.1? also, what will this do to the chances of getting ME-TV, which I would really rather have than CBS?

Getting CBS is OK in itself, but I can't help but wonder what other problems this will cause with how WBBJ handles things.

At least Jackson won't have to depend on Memphis for CBS;
this is like Bowling Green, KY, which had to depend on Nashville
or Louisville for CBS until WNKY added CBS on 40.2. Score one
for localism.

I remember watching Nashville channel 5 from our motel room in Bowling Green just three months ago, so this must be a fairly recent change. Felt like home to me, since I live near Nashville anyway! 8)

WTVF may still be on cable in Bowling Green. The point is that at one time Bowling Green had its own ABC affiliate (WBKO/13) and NBC one (WNKY/40); CBS had to be imported on WTVF and/or WLKY. Having CBS on 40.2 gives Bowling Green its own CBS affiliate.

I was able to find that ABC affiliate on the TV there. Gave me some good "local flavor" while we were there. Also found their PBS affiliate, although their programming was (not surprisingly) similar to what we have here. But somehow, I wasn't able to find their NBC affiliate, despite having a channel guide. Oh, well, we weren't there to watch TV anyway, and we were only there for the weekend.

So long as WREG remains significantly viewed in Madison County, they can't force it off cable. Of course, they can ask the cable company nicely to remove it or request it be removed as part of retransmission consent.

Hey, anotherguy, is WBBJ still the joke that it was when I lived in west Tennessee 20 years ago? ;D

They aren't as bad as they were in the 70's and 80's, but they still aren't as good as the Memphis or Nashville stations. At least their graphics don't look like they came from a Commodore 64 any more. ::)

They managed to get Charter and E+ to pull WPTY in Memphis, and I won't be surprised to see them try to do the same thing to WREG.

I'll give them credit though, they're finally doing something worth watching with their subchannels, and Jackson is finally going to have all the big 4 networks available. I'm still hoping some channel in Jackson will get ME-TV though.

My guess would be probably not that hard before digital TV, maybe even some
Nashville statons. Isn't Jackson about halfway between the two?

It's between the two along I-40, but closer to Memphis. Drawing a straight line Jackson is 76 miles from Memphis while it's 120 miles from Nashville.

Yes, the halfway point between Nashville and Memphis would be Henderson County (one county east of Jackson/Madison County) where Lexington, Tennessee, is located. That may be why the tower for WLJT (public television station) is located there (Lexington). The Lexington/Huntingdon (Parkers Crossroads) exit off of I-40 (exit 108, I think) is almost exactly halfway between Memphis and Nashville.

Ont thought I've has is that there could be times where the subchannel with CBS could have more viewers than the main channel with ABC. But I guess that happens in other places as well.

One other thought I've had is what will WBBJ show during local time on 7.3? They've already announced that the local news will be the same on 7.3, but what about times when other local programming is on? I just hope they don't load 7.3 with more trash talk and infomercials.
