ABC'S "JAMIE OLIVER'S FOOD REVOLUTION" CHOKES

Can you believe they brought this show back? Didn't it like suck last Summer? Is Jamie
dating some exec at ABC?

In it's debut this Tuesday the show got a 1.1 rating 18-49. Now, ABC has yanked it next
week in favor of a DANCING WITH THE STARS RECAP. The next week starts sweeps week
so it will probably not be seen then either.

Why doesn't ABC just go DANCING 24/7? Here's some shows.....
DANCING......BEFORE THEY WERE STARS
A PREVIEW OF THIS WEEK'S DANCING
A PREVIEW OF NEXT WEEK'S DANCING
BEHIND THE SCENES WITH DWTS
DWTS SATURDAY NITE

What's with all these shows super-sized? Do we really need 2 hours of Celebrity Apprentice,
all these results shows, etc., etc.? What's with shows on 3 or 4 times a week? How about some
creativity!

In Britain, they do the results the same night as the program itself. Because of obvious logistics (Alaska, Hawai'i, the West Coast, areas the East Coast never cares about), that will never happen in the US, thus the need to run it twice.

But all they need for results is 5 minutes, not an hour. No Toby Keith on Dancing...WHO CARES!?

I don't normally watch these types of programs but did see about 20 minutes of this show while cleaning up the kitchen or summat.

The concept is interesting (but only if one cares about the future health of our children) but the execution is way too slow. In approximately 20 minutes Oliver succeeded in gaining the limited cooperation of a semi-public school but only in an existing cooking class. There was no headway at all in his effort to establish some sort of healthy food service in a public school.

This show may have attracted interest on PBS but for the limited-attention viewers of ABC, no. That is unfortunate but such is life in the TV wars.

Personally, I wish him well in his efforts because it is definitely a worthwhile cause. Just not good popular television.

I watched last year's show and thought it was good. I think a lot of it depends on where he can go to shoot though.
Last year he had interesting people to talk to in West Virginia. This year, not so much in la la land.

The show proved to me that the feds are way too involved in dictating what goes on in our local schools. They'd be much better off if the USDA and the US Dept of Education would just go away and leave them alone.

It would be nice if kids were taught good eating habits.

I never had sodas at school, except when my mother was a teacher and I went to the teacher's lounge to get her a coke while waiting for her to take me home. I don't recall whether the coke was for her or for me. We did not have vending machines at my high school. I drank milk and wasn't always pleased with my food choices, but I'm sure they were healthier than what kids eat now. And this was before reagan's infamous declaration that ketchup is a vegetable.

Still, I'd like to see "No Ordinary Family" make a comeback. It was one of my favorite shows.

TV By The Numbers says it's scheduled for May 3. It's only a six episode run. I wouldn't be surprised if it was pulled due to recent developments at LAUSD. Rumor has it the new head guy may change some things.

It seems that vending machines for students is a more recent thing -- I've been to public school all my life, up through my 1988 graduation, and I never encountered a vending machine that students can use. Beverages bought at the school practically consisted of milk or orange juice (I don't think bottled water was an option then), and if you want a soda, you bring your own.

Vending machines worked their way into schools in the late 90s when Coke and Pepsi offered profit-sharing agreements. When they first appeared in my school, they were only turned on after 2pm. By the time I finished, they were left on all day.

My local high school and elementary schools districts still have vending machines but they sell only water. There are also free drinking fountains on campuses as well. Soda's and snacks were eliminated 5-6 years ago.

When I was in High School, graduated in 1986, I worked in the AD's office my junior and senior years. One of my responsibilities was filling over 10 soda machines throughout the campus and collecting the money. An average weekly amount was greater than $750.00 and this was selling sodas at 30 cents a can. The machines were near the gym and the cafeteria to allow access to them during athletic events in the afternoons and evenings.

So then, it's only fitting that his show is saying "That's all, folks!" :D

Here in Denver, I've seen KMGH 7 run it on SATURDAY AFTERNOONS !!!!! (Barring scheduling conflicts with sporting events that is)

Seems as though it should simply STAY THERE as it has potential there

Cheers :D

LAUSD stands for Los Angeles Unified School District...nothing to do with the Federales. THEY'RE the people trying to silence Oliver. That seemed to be a good peg on which to develop the show, not some local fast-food outlet.
