About 107.1 The Monkey WXYK-FM Gulfport, MS

It would be nice if 107.1 The Monkey should upgrade its signal at less 20,000 watts so they get a better service in the area especially in outside of the Harrison County area, like areas Waveland, Wiggins, and Pascagoula. :)

Would this even be possible? They're kinda bunched in with 107.3 Pensacola to the east and 107.1 Hattiesburg to the north. Not saying it can't be done, but I bet it'd be one heck of an engineering job.

Back when it used to known as Kiss, it had been on the stronger 105.9. I wonder why it was switched to 107.1 in the first place.

I had no idea why they switch it but it would make sense to leave top 40 alone @ 105.9 FM. But with the 107.1 FM signal they probably could do it @ 10,000 watts, because 107.1 FM tower in Hattiesburg is near Collins, MS and 107.3 FM tower in Pensacola is in Baldwin County, AL

Just doing a quick and dirty check, there is absolutely no upgrade path for WXYK that I can see.

The next class up from A would be C3, which would only increase the primary service contour by about five miles. To meet minimum separation from the 107.1 in Hattiesburg AND the 107.1 in Hammond, Louisiana (both are also class A's) the site would have to move east to Ocean Springs, south of US-98. But that would short space it to the Pensacola station on 107.3. In fact, if I'm not reading things wrong, WXYK is ALREADY short-spaced to WRGV so it couldn't move further east anyway.

Theoretically speaking upgrading to a C3 would increase their coverage of Pascagoula and Gulfport at the expense of Bay St. Louis, but it would probably necessitate a change of city of license to Ocean Springs or something because Gulfport would probably no longer be under the 70 dBu city contour. Also, over half the radiated power would be over the Gulf of Mexico.

I'm not engineer, however, so there may be a way around it. But it would a big headache for very little benefit, imho.

I think that The Monkey should go on 107.9 FM, because we have another country station at 99.1 fm and 96.7 fm. Why need 3 country Station in the same market! :-\ but i know that 107.1 and 107.9 are different owners.

I'd endorse bringing back Power 108! Although they're not local Gulf Coast stations, WABB and New Orleans' B97 cover the coast fairly well for CHR listeners.
