so they're supposedly commercial-free...........how does it sound w/o all the interruptions?

Really good, I'm tired of hearing commercials and on top of that, this is better than KHYI 95.3 The Range.

Great...you can listen online if you aren't in the area...

The Range..they are a little too busy being "cool" and play some really awful crap. Lonestar sounds great and they have TV voiced by Willie to sort of get something going too. Good on them for taking this thing to another level and no commercials..its heaven..

Amen to that brotha!

As a result of so few commercials on KZPS somebody has to pay for it. I wonder how many stations with decent ratings increased there voice tracking to pay for this little dallas experiment.

who cares? isn't the idea to get ratings and produce revenue? if they can take a unique approach to doing it, more power to them

The idea is that the sponsorships will pay what the commercials used to pay and with the reduced staff (sales, Jack Lindstrom, etc) costs will be less. If the "commercial free" experiment succeeds, they will be able to increase the price of the sponsorships and increasing revenues. unless they really undercut the sponsorship fees up front, there shouldn't be much, if any, loss up front.

Where is Jack "Locker Room" Lindstrom going to end up?

Jack lost his job? I thought he was on 100.3 FM ???? :D

Seriously, I liked Jack "Locker Room" Lindstrom and would hate to see him go.

Maybe The Ticket??
To do what? As far as I know he's never hosted a long form talk show in this market...hasn't he pretty much always been the sports sidekick on music shows?

I just wonder how the play list will go? When a station first starts out, the play list is a lot larger than it is after they've been on the air for a couple of months. Remember when Jack first came on? It took them about 3 weeks to really kill their play list and begin to play the same stuff over and over again. Does anyone know the real reason that so many stations do this?

They seem to have settled ina lil bit on the music. It seems like less country. More classic rock. Black Crowes and ZZ Top every hour...and a 5 hour plug every afternoon for Redbeard's "In the Studio" program....

The station could cater to those who would listen all day, because they didn't play the same stuff over and over. But the corproation cannot afford the lower bottom line that those kind of loyal listeners would bring.....

So, instead, the station targets the causal listener, who really only spends a little time each day with the station, to catch those familiar songs, yet once again. They are what I would call the "simple" listeners. There are --many-- of them, and..... these are the listeners that the station's advertisers hope to bombard with their sweet messages! Lots of these type of listeners tuning in for a short time each day, also increases the stations ratings, which increases what the station can charge the wonderful corporations that love to target just these kind of listeners...

The playlists and the bottom line determine who gets targeted. It's a little game, don't you see. And you and I are NEVER the Winners. It's a Big, important job corraling all of those casual listeners!!
