About San Juan, Puerto Rico's 630...

San Juan's 630 has gone thru many calls and format changes.

I remember it as WQBS, first as La Gran Cadena - Buena Musica; Salsa 63, Cadena QBS; then, as WSKN, La Super Kadena Noticiosa, and then the frequency swap with 1320, which brought WUNO Noti Uno to 630.

Well, actually I listened thru it's Ponce affiliate, WPRP 910, which has ALWAYS been WPRP, though not always on 910.

So, Señor Gleason, When did the 630 freq. first went on the air in San Juan?
What has been the Call Letter and format line up?

I have more questions to ask, but I know you're a busy gentleman.

Thanks in Advance

WKYN went on the air in the late 50's (I don't have my Yearbook Collection at hand today) and was English until the late 60's when the Mayoral affair (illegal taping of AFRTS transmissions for rebroadcast) almost cost the licence of all of Alfredo Ramirez de Arellano's stations and the format switched to Spanish and calls to WQBS. The format for the next nearly 20 years was some form of Spanish CHR, ranging from Pop driven to more tropical variations.

It was Cadena QBS, and then La G>ran Cadewana and then (Cadeana) QBS. In its last years as a music station, it was all merengue for the Dominican population in PR. In the early 90's, former GM Reynaldo Royo and some partners bought the three AMs from the heirs of Ramirez and built Super Kadena and changed to WSKN in San Juan. When this project ran out of money, UnoRadio group bought the staitons and switched the NotiUno programming to them, eventually selling the old 1320 frequency of NotiUno.
