about sportstalk 950

I have a point of curiosity. WPEN switched formats from "the station of the stars" to that 50's and 60's format that was supposed to compete with WOGL. Well that lasted a few months, or at least it seemed like it. Then WPEN flipped to sportstalk 950 to compete with 610 WIP...and they bill themselves as sports talk without the hate. That's all well and good, but I am questioning the successfulness of the brand. I want to know if SPortstalk 950 will last !! currently they have Jim Rome, and TOny Bruno and Jody Mac.....and are developing that 700 level club show. But they still keep all that (BLEEP) on the weekend that has ziltch to do with sports. I am talking about those leftover brokered shows. the dining around show, and the Real Estate guy show, and the doctor show, and the PNC bank show and the none-of-these-shows-have-anthing-to-do-with-sports show. IS Greater Media going to somewhere along the way phase out these leftovers? or will they continue to be a throwback to ancient AM radio that nobody in their right mind would tune into, for fear of crashing their car into the embankment or driving straight off of 95.

Re: about people who live in glass houses

Your station airs weekend brokered programming and infomercials. Maybe you've sold some of them. Maybe you should get weekend brokered shows and infomercials off WCOJ before you start "carping" (pun intended) at WPEN for their weekend brokered programs and infomercials.

"Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Let me take the speck out of your eye,' when all the time there is a plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your own eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye." - Matt 7:3-5

I am not here to slam WPEN. YOu are a dunce for even going there. My point is that the brokered weekends are not sports related. I want to know if they will continue to exist or will they be phased out, It's a clear and simple question.

Yeah... I agree with the PEN stuff. Is it leftover inventory or are they still selling this stuff? Plenty of the big boys (FOX, ESPN, TSN) have weekend shows that they could put on for probably relatively cheap.

I listened at various times this past Saturday (10/29) and heard a local sportstalk call-in show with Delaware County Times sports writer Jack McCaffery, followed up by another local call-in sports show with NFL films producer Greg Cosell. They were also referring to sports shows on later in the day that sounded like they were syndicated. So, maybe they are gradually moving to an all-sports format.
