About The Mike Tirico Show....

I just have to share this. I couldn't find an old thread where it fit.

Today on the local 23 hr/day ESPN station I hear an ad for "The Mike Tirico Show." It goes on for at least a full minute. They replay an interview with Bronson Arroyo, from days gone by, and tell us to listen to the Mike Tirico show. Listening to it today closer than I usually have, I noticed that there doesn't seem to be any Mike Tirico voice on there. That cracked me up.

The Mike Tirico Show needs to be gone. I can't believe they couldn't find anyone better to have filled DP's old spot.

He's not on the promo because he's on vacation for 4 solid weeks.

Look for this to eventually become the Scott Van Pelt show (not just the 3rd hour).

It's a promo they've been running for a while now.
Of course, the namesake of the show's been on vacation/assignment for a while now too....

Mike will probably pop up on the ABC/ESPN coverage of the British Open this weekend. I expect him to return to his radio gig sometime next week.

What a perfect spot for Tony Bruno...if he hasn't burned his bridges with ESPN. Tirico is a joke. He is never there.

not happening, ESPN isn't ditching their monday night football guy (who they must think highly of if they're giving him Dan Patrick's old timeslot) for a guy thats already been there and already been through the other 2 competing sports radio networks. They're protecting themself from Bruno bolting suddenly, or saying something that would get him fired (which he may have already been at ESPN)

hey maine dude.

Perhaps some facts might help when dissing Bruno. He doesn't "bolt" for another job. He left ESPN after 8 years out of frustration with management and didn't have another job for over 6 months.

The other 2 places - FSR and SNR - were jokes and not serious about competing and wanted to go cheaper by hiring Van Earl Wright(disaster) at FSR - and not even replacing Bruno at what's left of Sporting News.

ESPN put Tirico on that shift because he's the only legit talent they have in TV or Radio who has respect and was high profile enough to replace Dan Patrick after he "bolted". The other floating TV heads who think they are talents like Wingo, Kuselias and Gotllieb couldn't get a job doing local radio in most medium markets.

I like Tony Bruno. I think he is better than most on the national game...but what is up?? This guy has gone down the network sports radio food chain...ESPN, FOX, SNR and last week FILLING IN for DP show??? I get getting a bad deal once ...but doesn't this seem to be happening a little much over the last 10 years?? QPlayman will answer back that those networks weren't serious about competing....ummm...ESPN Radio is #1 by a mile...I don't see too much FOX SPORTS RADIO 1050's in NYC....whatever. Tirico is their only talent??? Mike & Mike are probably #1 now past Rome, when you count TV every morning, the freakin' WHITE HOUSE, and they are beating local shows in big markets. Wasn't that show once BRUNO & GOLIC????? I understand Bruno's "frustrations" but had he been patient...well, I guess we wouldn't be wondering what happened to this guy and FSR wouldn't exist.

Last week...he was good filling in for DP...and it was a nice change. But the constant " I need a job" mentions to his guests...I mean c'mon....you HAVE HAD JOBS!!!! FSR and SNR may not be ESPN RADIO, but they are still on the air....and they haven't fallen to the ground without Bruno!

I thought we would hear something by now. Tony needs to get it together and just put his own show or something or do a bad local show in LA, and then be out of work again in 2 years....in that brutal deadspin interview...he talked about not wanting to do local, but mentioned talking to ESPN/LA (yeah a freakin' loser station)...then on his website...there are mentions of him doing his OWN national show...and I'm sure there are plenty of stations that would take him although they probably wonder how long he will stay on the air too the next time....just do something....I've posted before that XM/SIRIUS/INTERNET should at least let him to do his own national show again...and not have to BOLT when his contract is up (or as others would like say that they weren't serious enough to compete...but didn't they hire him in the first place?? That makes no sense...)

This seems pretty simpl...or maybe nobody really cares about the guy anymore and he is just too much trouble to deal with and can't bring the same return anymore as Mike & Mike, Rome, or DP can....why else could someone so good not be on the air?? These companies seem to be SERIOUS enough to pay the big 3 above.....one thing is for sure, I'm tired of talking about the guy....and if we are still talking about this guy not being on the air still in a few months...it's done for him.

Today, I heard the last minute or two of "The Tirico and Van Pelt Show" time (as they were calling it the last couple of weeks I heard them, and Scott Van Pelt told what was coming up tomorrow on "The Scott Van Pelt Show."

Maybe ESPN finally got around to admitting what errybody else has known was true for a while now......

To add to the the clusterfreak that is ESPN midday, there IS actually a "Scott Van Pelt Show" from 3pm to 4pm Eastern. This show is completely (allegedly) a separate entity than the "Tirico and Van Pelt Show". (I would assume that you knew that, and I likely look pretty silly explaining!)

I really would not mind this nearly as much if they just called it the "Tafoya and Van Pelt Show". Or the "Kuselias and Himself Show". I know...how about the "Babe Ruth, Bill Belichick, & Mike Tirico Show"? Or how about the "Genghis Khan, Abraham Lincoln, & Mike Tirico Show"? I think the attendance rate would be about the same.

Whatever, though. The only thing worse than the guy being AWOL three weeks out of four from his own show is when Tirico actually shows up for it. Bland-a-rino.

Nah, macrinus, I had no idea there was a separate "Scott Van Pelt Show" from 3-4. It was right before 4 when I tuned in.
It was the first time I've tuned in in a couple of weeks, and never at that time. I was going to check out the couple of local hours our local station does 4-6.

The rest of the day, ESPN is pretty blah to me too. I always see the same lame bunch of talking heads I can see on 24/7 ESPN tv. "TeamX has to do blahblahblah to win this game" "TeamY can't do this or they will lose" Just a bunch of radio hosts discussing their opinions of the games before they happen, usually. There's never any one with any real opinions, I never hear (well at least before the last few weeks when I tried to listen a lot) anyone call any players out for stuff, no one seems to have any interest in the games or interacting with listeners, no one has any strong opinions on any topics. And so no one is entertaining.

I can't say that Tirico is any more boring than the rest of the hosts, though. They are all nebulous and interchangeable to me. Even Colin Cowherd, who I hear great things about, I can't get in to, because he's just talkingtalkingtalking the whole time, sometimes repeating himself from one hour to the next.

I guess I take back what I was thinking about them renaming the show and seeing the midday schedule working into some identifiable mass.
It's still a useless clusterfreak, too.
