? About WNKN-FM 105.9

I seem to notice better sound on WNKN-FM 105.9. There now seems to be real Stereo separation and more low end Bass.
It now sounds to me to be about the same as the WNKU-FM signal.
Have they upgraded that ricketty old transmitter or is this just my imagination? The On Air Talent did say they
have upgraded their On-Line Stream from 64Kbps to 96Kbps. She did not say anything about 105.9

There is a thread from NKU's head engineer awhile back in which he gave all the details on how 105.9 gets the signal from them and what their plans were regarding the old WPFB transmitter. They did replace that old transmitter shortly after they purchased the station with a brand new Nautel. They are feeding the audio from their own satellite uplink. I believe it is 96kpbs mpeg 1 so maybe that has changed?

Here is that thread in question with Jeff talking about the NKU setup shortly after they took over the station.

The prior 128k feed sounded more like a 64k mp3. It had tinny, swishy highs like a low bitrate internet stream.

Can't say the new "improved" feed sounds much better because the 105.9 had a definite digital "stutter" to it when I tuned in around 6pm today.

Ah so their now doing 192 kbps instead of 128kbps...

The biggest problem about your STL being "compressed audio" is that when you do the A/D conversion going into processing.. then to exciter (transmitter) that further reduces the quality of the bits. I would be curious to know how the Satellite receiver is connected to the processing at the tower site and then how the processing is fed into the transmitter. [If there any further A/D conversions it will further make the 192kbps sound terrible]
