This more of a TV subject than radio, but since WOLO is now that advertising doing radio news updates on a couple different radio stations I got to ask why WOLO only has two newscasts. I like WOLO better than WLTX, WACH, and the pompous WIS and plus they've got the only HD newscast in town and their little studio at Main and Gervais was fun to explore. WOLO is becoming like the little engine that could.
 
The best that I can surmize about WOLO's newscasts is the following:

1) the camera work for the News and Sports portions of the newscasts is done in Columbia. 2) the weather is done from Charlotte and 3)the actual "producing" (switching, directing, etc) is also done from Charlotte. This is only my casual observations but I believe them to be correct.

I have to say that I disagree that WOLO is the little station that could. They have had many opportunities to "break through" in the past. At one time, WLTX and WOLO were offering news at Six pm and WIS was not. And there was a time, I believe, when WOLO was beating WLTX in that time slot. This was sometime in the 90's. WIS said "hey wait a minute..." and added a 6pm newscast and...you know the rest. I used to root for WOLO but honestly, and I don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings but their news is absolutely un-watchable to me now. Their news ratings are a very distant third and if you add in WACH's 10pm, I think, fourth.
 
I may be wrong but if I remember correct WIS added a 6PM Newcast early in 91 right around the time of the Gulf War was taking place... I am sure WIS would have added a 6PM Newcast, but not sure how long it would have taken had the first Gulf war not taken place... CC1
