Abrams leaves KKOB/Magic

Chris Abrams, one member of the Brain Trust that tubed heritage KOB-FM and turned Magic into the old KOBFM is out the door. I hear the GM's yes man got a better gig in Phoenix. Only in radio can you fail miserably, but as long as you have your nose in the GM's behind, can you actually move up!

And your point is............You are right on. I know a guy who got fired by a station in the South East went to another group and was fired because as om all the stations went down and lost money under him he lasted there two years...two years later his buddy became president of his old radio group and they fired a PD who brought the station back up to hire him back, since he has been back the station has lost 3 share points under him but since his buddy is el presidente he will never get canned...Yes thats life in radio

Not following you, KKOB-FM seems to have better numbers then they have in a long, long time (6.0 share in Summer?) and Magic looks descent. But, you're right on the brown nosing thing. It happens all the time in this business. But, I am confused, Citadel doesn't own Phoenix stations. Do you mean he has been promoted to the Citadel Tucson stations? Is that a promotion?

Hey we go, three posts from more people who've never programmed, and could never program themselves out of a wet paper sack. Take some time to review his resume and success in other markets. He'll take heritage oldies station KOOL to new levels.

Well I have programed and I am currently programing two stations. I have all the respect in the world for Abrams we have talked several times and I wish him all the best

Citadel owns no Phoenix stations. KOOL-FM - where Abrams is going - is owned by CBS.

Bottom line: Abrams was not promoted by Citadel. Whatever clown wrote the original post doesn't have a clue.

The good news....he escapes the Farid and Judy show. The bad news....it's a gold station owned by CBS. But with his background in A/C, Abrams could always "Freshen" the station......should the brain trust in NYC go that way.

The Abram Brothers become the most powerful one, two punch in oldies programming. Meaning oldies are alive and well in markets that they get their hands on. Glad to see it! I still believe its a viable format.

The PD going to KOOL is the BROTHER of Keith Abrams. Group VP/Programming for CBS. Nepitism is alive and well at CBS.

Any situation I wasn't familiar with I'd agree. But both are HIGHLY qualified. And Keith would not risk his career to hire an unqualified
candidate...related or not. Kris was a good hire.

ED,

Never said Abrams wasn't a good programmer. I SAID...."Nepitism is alive and well at CBS."

Who will replace Kris?
Will they promote from inside OR will they go outside??

Fred got quiet

Any word on who Citadel is talking to? There has to be a lot intersest in this gig. Both KKOB and
KMGA lead their demos and have pretty consistantly for the last few years. There has to be a lot
of folks chasing this situation. Any one local?

I don't know any personally, but Chaz Malibu would be a good fit. I'm sure he's been in the building.

Yep a great gig it would be....The PD already has two winning stations and all he would have to do is keep it between the lines.

Doubt this one is a first time PD gig. Magic is the big FM biller in that cluster and KKOB-F has built
quite a solid spot over the last few years. Chaz in the seat would be a huge 'surprise'. To be honest
with heritage talent and a couple of 20+ year market vets in Moore/KMGA and Forsythe/KKOB this
is one for someone with a real track record.

Forsythe was KOB F PD before Abrams and I believe he gave it up so he could just do mornings and Moore while a fine talent I don't believe has ever been a PD.....They said they want someone who lives the life.....93.3 18-34 demo and Magic is a 35-50 demo hummmmmmmmmmm
As always this is an opportunity for someone to bring in a bud
