AC Market ratings. Any thoughts?

> Anyone?

Suprisingly strong showing for WCMC's tiny signal out of Wildwood.

Oldies on WMID not working out as well as expected.

WTKU is completely unphased by Oldies 94.3, Oldies 98.1, Oldies 100.1 and Oldies 1340.

Poor results for WSJO's live & local 25,000 watt flamethrower.

BAD numbers for The Breeze 99.7/106.3.

I'm kind of suprised that WCHR's 25,000 watt signal didn't even show up. It's only 25 miles from Manahawkin to Atlantic City - that's the same distance as Manahawkin to Brick.

My Dad's favorite station was WMID-- but I found that he migrated over to WCMC as well! Perhaps a lot of that is going on. And he lives in Southern Ocean County where the signal is probably only mediocre.
______________

My advice to Press Communications is this: Forget about either the soccer moms and their daughters (targeted by G Pop ... er, G Rock Radio) or the elderly ladies with blue hair (targeted by The Breeze), and go after the audience that has been long neglected in the Monmouth/Ocean (and to a lesser extent, AC / Cape May) markets: men aged 18-50. An Active Rocker (or better yet, with WJSE and WDOX's recent flip, a REAL Alternative station, not some watered down commercialized Hot AC / Alternative hybrid like G Rock, where we can hear such great cutting-edge "Alternative" acts like No Doubt, Fiona Apple, Evanescence, and the Black Crowes!) would kill in both markets - can anyone besides me see the gaping hole? Certainly no one at Press does. A station like this with a decent signal (which both WJSE and WDOX lacked) would most certainly excel - the public is clamoring for it.

That would be a complete and total failure, sorry to say. There's a huge hole for Polka too but that doesn't mean it should be filled. There'd be no audience for it, and the same goes for the format you described. (Personally, I think a Polka format would be hilarious down there. As such, I am officially clamoring.) ;-)

This is a format that you could sell to all the beer companies and the myriad surf & skate shops in the area, among other businesses. And what are men 18-50 listening to in Mon/Oc? XM or Sirius? The Hawk certainly doesn't have their ears, and then there's G Rock Radio: About 50% of the songs they play sound like they would make very good background music for a Tampax or Massengill commercial - so no dice there. That leaves WRAT, if you don't mind listening through the static. With Nine Inch Nails, System Of A Down, Mudvayne, Gorillaz and others recently debuting with some of the best sales weeks of their careers, rock is definitely not dead. The ratings of WJSE (despite the format tweak) also prove this - even more impressive considering they don't cover the entire market. Trying this format certainly couldn't hurt: I honestly believe that SoJo 104.9 and 99.7 The Breeze would substantially improve if they switched to this.

We know you do. :)

Tell us what you mean by "improve." What exactly do you think would improve?
