AC on its way out in Detroit? WMGC

With the Christmas holiday soon over, we will find out what will happen to the lone remaining AC station? in Detroit, WMGC. Until October, the station was "Magic 105.1" WMGC as AC, but sometime that month they flipped to "Christmas 105.1" (a common name for a stunting station) with all-Christmas music. The station had been on an interesting musical path before the switch, almost sounding like a classic hits station. The station has put the AC format on its HD2. Also notable is that the station's morning host retired earlier this week.

Any guesses on what happens to the AC format in Detroit? A year ago, after Christmas, heritage AC WNIC abandoned the format for Hot AC. Could Detroit be AC-less in 2012?

105.1 should go Country and knock down WYCD a couple pegs... or try to pick up ESPN Sports and go with a Sports format to possibly block a possible WDFN-FM and compete with WXYT-FM :)

Yuck. I hope not. I'd love to see something like Rhythmic AC or Soft AC (as opposed to mainstream AC), but that's very unlikely.
