Where do you see AC evolving in the next five years? How competitive a format will it be against the others? What formats would you like to see go from niche to full blown evolvement?Thanks....

I'm curious as to whether you feel like the format has evolved in the last 5 years. I've been doing AC for 8 years now and there doesn't seem to be a lot of shifting--at least imho.

The question asks where you see the format heading not where it's been. The lack of quality product has dictated ac for several years. It's a tough product to program primarily because many see it as only a daytime format.I'm curious as to whether or not you see any "trends" starting in AC.Many thanks....Gary

From where we've been for the past two or three years, i'd call our format: GOLD AC,It's a choice and obviously a good one for many programmers, but we have to worry a little bit about new product available that doesn't play on ac stations, otherwise we will continue towards a solid GOLD ac format and stuck with too much predictability.

I think that 5 years from now AC will have stopped playing James Ingram, Patty Austin, Lionel Richie, the Commodores, Earth Wind and Fire, Vanessa Williams, Anita Baker, the Eagles, Glen Frey, Don Henley, Laura Branigan, and other older artists. About 6 years ago, AC has already stopped playing Barry Manilow, the Carpenters, Anne Murray, Captain and Tenille, Carly Simon, Rita Coolidge, etc. Also, 5 years from now the youngest AC format will only play the best mix of the 1990s, the 2000s, and now. About 6 years ago, the youngest AC played the best mix of the 1980, the 1990s, and now.

WOW...I hope You're semi-right...WTFM is still playing Ben E. King "Stand By Me"...from 1961.."Diana Ross and Supremes" Van Morrison etc.etc. so anything from the 70's or 80's would be a welcome change in the Tri-Cities TN. In Fact anything from the 80's would make the station sound "Contemporary" by their standards.
