AC stations playing Haddaway's "What is Love"

I've noticed that quite a few AC stations are playing this song, which really surprised me, since I always thought of this as a dance track, and it's from the early 90s. I know WLTW/NYC has played it quite a bit, which doesn't exactly surprise me. But I also noticed WYYY/Syracuse and KODA/Houston playing it as well. Has anyone else here heard this song on AC? And were you surprised?

Heard it? Yes. Surprised? Not at all. Makes perfect sense.

Let's do the math, the song was a big hit in 1993, a 16 year old girl hearing that song after a long day at high school is now a 33 year old woman-the demographic sweet spot for any A/C station-makes perfect sense to me.

I very much rather hear Haddaway's "What is Love" then any of the sugar-coated love songs by the teeny-bopping groups of late 90s and early 2000's.

Is this the song with the words "Baby don't hurt me"?

Yes.

I've noticed that all the AC stations playing it are CC-owned stations. I wonder if something's going on. Maybe WSRS/Worcester will soon add it to their playlist.

I know one of Renda Broadcasting's AC station that plays it, which is KMGL. They don't play it a lot, once in every two weeks the song pops on their playlist like a few times, but they hardly play it. They play worse things though like Lenny Kravitz "American Woman" which is suppose to be an Hot AC song and that song comes up on their playlist often, but not a lot.

Even though they are in a major market, I hardly consider B98.5/WSB to be an accurate represntation of the AC format. They rarely add current hits and some of their older choices are odd. Very weird programming strategy.

I almost consider them an AC/Adult Hits hybrid.

Yeah, KMGL is pretty much the same way like that. KMGL seems to play songs that exists on most CBS Jack FM's, especially KJKK here in Dallas. They play mostly soft 70s/80s mix with some currents, but they tends to play The Tubes, The J Geils Band, and a few other things that you usually hear on Adult Hits stations.
