ACC Requests

I usually catch bits & pieces of ACC weekly & happened to catch the tail end a couple of weeks ago. Bob Kingsley solicits dedications but specifies they must be songs of the last 15 years. Isn't this both unusual & restrictive even for a modern country format? A lot of pre-1990 country fits well with today's hits & I seriously doubt he would get too many requests for 60s & 70s anyway. Wondering how many requests & dedications a show like this actually gets, isn't it a better idea just not to play any songs that don't fit rather than lay out some rules beforehand? I'm sure there are many that just don't make it to the show anyway. Anyone know if the same thing is done on shows like AT40?

I would guess that being an international show, they get many more than they could possibly ever use, but I couldn't even begin to guess a number.
The station I recently programmed aired ACC, and I noticed a few times that even though he would mention the last 15 years, there were occasions when he would deviate from that, and go back further.
I agree with you that much of the pre-90 music does fit in well with today's music, and I think it's unfortunate that more stations don't drop one in from time to time. At my last station, we switched from a playlist of just 400-500 songs from the past 3-5 years, to a much larger playlist that included songs all the way back to 1960, and we more than doubled our audience share. I know many out there would raise an eyebrow or two if they heard Big & Rich and Porter Wagoner in the same hour, but it certainly worked well for us.

I wouldn't expect to hear any Porter on ACC but with 80s music probbly pretty popular with today's CHR or Hot AC audiences I was surprised to hear those parameters set. I'd guess whether or not a request makes it to the show depends not only on the song but also on the story behind the dedication.

Yeah, I wouldn't expect to hear Porter on ACC, either, although he does occasionally go a good ways back, I think with their ACC calendar. I know, last year, on one of the ACC shows, he played Ray Price's "For The Good Times", so I guess anything's possible.
