ACC Tournament

I feel sorry for listeners of Majic 94.1 this weekend.

Every time I would turn on the station, it seemed, they would be airing the ACC Tournament. The Tar Heel Network broadcast. Now if they're the designated station to carry the entire tournament in Greensboro/Winston-Salem, that's okay. But I can remember when the Duke station in my area also had the entire tournament. This is ridiculous! It seemed every station I tried had the games. I was relieved that didn't happen this year. Both Duke stations were playing music around here.

But only one station in any given area should be airing the tournament, plus whatever station carries the games for the college playing at the time.

You're right. The tournament was probably an easy sell- thus quick cash, and bragging rights out at the country club, but it probably cost them half their audience. And it's hard to get those listeners back. We used to air Carolina on WWMG in Charlotte years ago, and suffered thru bad book after bad book. We finally wised up and dumped the sports- ratings and revenue tripled in 6 months.

I don't know guys. This is a lifestyle thing and the ACC tournament in March in NC is the equivalent of the Ky Derby in May up there. People DO care about it, particularly when NCSU and UNC go to the finals.

sidenote: why do they call it your home for THE oldies. it sounds like someone who has just learned english bough a radio station. yes, we are your home for the classic rock and roll. doesn't work for me.

I can tell you, that as long as Hilton owns 94.1 it will be a UNC network station and will carry the ACC Tournament.

Does anyone know if WSJS aired the Sunday game - or the NASCAR race from Vegas?

ZTK did not air the whole tournament. Best I can tell, they only aired the Wake games!

Bottom line is the bottom line and in the Traid, the stations make a great deal of $$ on the ACC.

I ran into something similar here: (1) Last year, the Duke Radio Network aired all the games, and this year, they only aired the Duke game (one-and-done for Duke, since they fell to N.C. State in OT in the first round). (2) WRDU "106.1 The Rooster," a Tar Heel Sports Network affiliate, only aired the Carolina games, although the network itself aired all 11 games. We didn't have that problem when the former WTRG 100.7 was the Carolina FM affiliate--- they carried all the games--- but ever since WRDU took over from WTRG (now WRVA) two years ago (prior to the 2005 football season), I have had to tune to either WDUR 1490 (part of the now-dead Triangle Sports Talk) or WCHL 1360 to get all 11 games. (Another Clear Channel screw-up? Who knows?)

I listened to quite a bit of the tournament's non-UNC games on Rooster... they must've carried at least part of the tournament.
