Account Executive for Local TV

Gentlemen and Ladies,

I have a good friend who has a wealth of sales experience, is in a job she hates, and actually graduated the Cronkite school, a little while back. I've told her she ought to get a TV sales gig, as when I briefly worked in TV, those guys had the nicest cars. Frankly though, I don't know what salary she could expect, just starting out. Can any of you all help me with that? What would she make if she went to work as just-another-salesperson at one of the local TV stations (it may be that she's better off grinning and bearing in her current position). Thanks!

I checked salary.com, but didn't find anything matching the job description of account executive. I would hazard to guess that your friend would be in the $40-45k salary range, plus commission, but that is just a guess on my part. That, and a job would have to be available, which might not be the case. Good luck to your friend. I'm glad I found a use for my Cronkite degree outside of TV/Radio/Newspaper.

Thank you for your input, amigo. I had about the same luck with the online salary data. (I should have just come out and asked one of the sales guys I chummed with back then, "What do you make, anyway?") It sounds like it'd be about a lateral move for her, but she'd be in an industry that's nearer her heart. Heck, I miss it all the time, but it never paid this well.
