ACM Awards Postponed

"The 55th Academy of Country Music Awards™ scheduled to air live on the CBS Television Network on Sunday, April 5th from Las Vegas is postponed and will be rescheduled to air on CBS in September, at a date, time and venue to be determined. The health and safety of our artists, fans, industry, staff and partners is our number one priority."

I wonder how hard it would be to do what awards shows sometimes do when the winner is on a tour. This would mean someone would have to know in advance, but like on the People's Choice Awards, everyone knows they won something, but not what.

Wow, the show can't happen sooner than September?

God bless you always!!!

Holly

P.S. I wonder what this could mean for the CMA Music Festival activities. If things that were supposed to be soon have to be delayed, what is a sufficient enough amount of time to where this matter isn't getting completely out of hand?

Since no one knows for sure how this situation resolves itself, or when, everything is fluid at this point. In a month, trends should be materializing -- new cases increasing or decreasing, more or fewer people dying, deaths still mostly the elderly or more younger folks. Nothing is known on any of those fronts less than a week in, so the prudent thing is cancel or postpone the entire spring event calendar, suck it up and try again in the fall or next year. It will suck if not much is left of the outbreak by June and there's no CMA Music Festival (or NBA playoffs or Belmont Stakes or College World Series), but at least we'll know how this virus behaves should it show up again before all the approvals for cures/vaccines are in place and distribution can start.

The one thing that all music awards shows have in common is that they are as genuine as a professional wrestling match.

Now a September date is being proposed for the ACM award show.

Here's the official press release:

NEW AIR DATE ANNOUNCED FOR THE
“55TH ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS™,”
WEDNESDAY, SEPT. 16 ON CBS

15-Time ACM Award® Winner Keith Urban to Host for the First Time

LOS ANGELES, CA (March 23, 2020) – The Academy of Country Music® and dick clark productions announced today that the 55TH ACADEMY OF COUNTRY MUSIC AWARDS™ has set a new air date, Wednesday, Sept. 16 (live 8:00-11:00 PM ET/delayed PT) on the CBS Television Network, and will stream live and on demand on CBS All Access. As previously announced, the 55th ACM Awards® that honors the biggest names and emerging talent in the Country Music industry, will be hosted by reigning ACM® Entertainer of the Year and 15-time ACM Award® winner Keith Urban for the first time.

The show will now air on Wednesday instead of Sunday, to allow for NFL games broadcast on CBS on Sunday.

Previously, the Sunday airdate was designed to sit in between NCAA basketball games on Saturday and Monday.

Wednesday is a better day for artist availability, assuming touring will resume by then. The CMA Awards have taken place on Wednesdays.
