Activist's 2nd station attempt

These people obviously don't understand that there are rules for AM and FM stations, and you just cant make them up as you go along. These people would use profanity on the air and refuse to use EAS, as they would believe its government infringement on their rights. I hope these freaks dont get anything but a hefty bill from their FCC attorney and from their engineer!

They seem to be using a Bay Area lawyer who specializes in filing applications for clueless lib kids of all ages who want a low power radio or TV station. I can't imagine his clients have any awareness of what areas would actually be covered by the licenses they seek.

Although......

Perhaps they are smarter than we think and are counting on the KPRI creep to get them close to San Diego once they get on the air. KPRI started out as a Carlsbad station located in the far north county with antenna in San Marcos, but they slowly crept south in terms of city of license and, most importantly, transmitter location. They now are licensed to -- snicker, snicker -- "Encinitas," but with transmitter on Mt Soledad, that's a bit of a joke.

Keep in mind that KPRI was limited to the south by the Tijuana non-com on 102.5. Only after KPRI and the other next adjacent ;D did a multi-million dollar transaction with the Tijuana station whereby the Mexican station could increase power and accept mutual interference from 102.1 and 102.9 which would not afford them the prior levels of protection.

I doubt Activist has the kind of money needed to move stations out of its way, even non-coms.

I believe KPRI was originally an Oceanside FM(KUDE).
Why dosen't Activist SD consider other broadcast options, more AFFORDABLE ones? Take KURS 1040. A 3-hour broadcast, 6-9 pm on
this outlet would surely be more effective, especially since the signal would be heard in the City Heights area.Time s/b pretty inexpensive
(cash talks w/Bonilla). A Tijuana station, AM or FM, may be willing to sell broadcast time to this group.
Buying time on a local FM's HD-2 signal? Might go for a good rate, considering the lack of any good programming available on HD-2's right
now.
After building a LOCAL listener/donation base, maybe then consider applying for an LPFM for City Heights...

That's right - my aging brain confused it with the old KARL-FM, Carlsbad, later KKOS and now KUSS.

I really dont think these people have a clue how to run a radio station. I personally believe that if they ever pull this off that their protesting or programming would be extremely offensive to the masses in SD. You know they can always broker time with KCBQ too they love money and will do anything for it just listen to the Sunday night shows!

If you've ever listened to anything Pacifica... I'm somewhat liberal, but those guys make me cringe.

Agreed that money would be better spent brokering time than filing for a rimshot NCE that would never make it into the city. You'd get on the air a lot faster, too.

Ok so let me get this right? Be an illegal pirate make a stink with a bunch of weirdos..... get a license????

I would think that if you pirated and were caught and fined you would be disqualified for a license??

I think that would be the case too, but I'm not sure who was actually caught, shut down and fined. That group was very secretive about their identities and the FCC could only cite whomever was at the raided transmitter location (also an assumption). That would leave the rest of the players free to go forward with faulty applications to their heart's content.

Hummmmmm with sort of logic I guess I need to acquire a transmitter. Seems like the reverse of the right way. Go on the air then get a license. Ok I can handle that. That's the Jaime Bonilla way too isnt it Radeoengineer?

Hey I will even run EAS and legal IDs...and even PSA's on my pirate station. I will be the most legal, illegal station in the country! Oh and I will maintain a public file LOL

The bottom line is that there needs to be an alternative voice here in this town. Be it legal or not, I'm all for whatever method they use.
