Actor John Spencer has died

Known as Leo McGarry on The West Wing, John Spencer died today in Los Angeles at 58 of an apparent heart attack.

From wikipedia:

In 2002, Spencer won his first Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series for his portrayal of Leo McGarry on The West Wing. He had been been nominated twice before. The episodes Spencer submitted for judging by the Emmy voters were "Bartlet for America", in which Leo has to testify in front of a Congressional committee about the President's health and flashes back to his own medical lapse, and "We Killed Yamamoto".

I wonder how many of the remaining six unaired episodes of this season's The West Wing are done? The story line last week had Presidential Candidate Matt Santos wanting McGarry to take over running the campaign leading up to the election.

If they don't have all the episodes filmed, will they rewrite the storyline to include the death of McGarry?

Re: Link To NBC-TV/Warner Brothers Statement On John Spencer's Death

On sad note. Tuesday would have been his 59th birthday.

I wish I knew how many episodes for the rest of the season had yet to be filmed. I would think that production of "West Wing" has probably already ended for the Christmas/Hannukah/Kwanzaa/New Year's break, with filming set to resume on or around January 3rd.

I suspect that at the most, six to eight episodes have yet to be filmed.

I would think that either the McGarry character will be killed-off, or abruptly end his candidacy for Vice-President to take a job overseas, so in either event, the character is written out.

It will be a tough decision for "West Wing" executive producer John Wells to make over the weekend and in the days to come.

I just read this, I am sorry to hear this, he was one of my favorite actors, and the character was one of my favorite too.

Who knows? They'll have to think of someting. But if it's not pointed out yet, the characer had an already had a heart attack, so logic suggests they'd just incorporate what happened into the script.

I highly doubt that this is what John Wells will be worring about over the weekend.
