Actors who had hit sitcoms and dramas

Georege Clooney "er" a short-lived comedy on CBS then "ER" NBC, the one everyone else knows

Tony Shaloub "Wings", NBC now "Monk", USA Network

Susan St. James. 'Mcmillan and Wife' then 'Kate and Ally'

Thomas Gibson "Dharma and Greg" Now "Criminal Minds"

Enrico Colantoni "Shoot Me" Now "Flashpoint"

Judd Hirsch "Taxi", "Dear John", Now "Numbers"

Traylor Howard, '2 guys and a Pizza Parlor" Now "Monk"

Steven Weber "Wings" Then "Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip"

Slight correction on titles:

You were right about George Clooney when he was on a short-lived CBS sitcom called E/R. He also appeared in some of the episodes of Roseanne and then got serious in the drama we know today ER.

Traylor Howard started with an under two season sitcom that started with Two Guys, A Girl And A Pizza Place. By season two, they ditched the pizza place and shortened the title to Two Guys And A Girl and, as you stated is now on Monk.

Thought I give you and oversight on its titles.

Somebody mention Andy Griffith and his show along with Matlock. But didn't he have a semi-dramatic series on ABC I believe in the very early 70's for a season or two?

It was on CBS, and it was called "Headmaster". He played a high school principal who dealt with Relevant Serious Issues, and the show was pretty much "Room 222" with Andy Griffith. After half a season, it got made over into more of a standard sitcom called, cleverly, "The New Andy Griffith Show". There's a pretty thorough account of the show on tvparty.com. As far as ABC, he did a movie of the week in the late 70's called "Salvage One" about a good old boy who built him a rocket. IIRC, that was briefly made into a series.

Christopher Connelly, "Peyton Place" and "Paper Moon" (the latter was a massive hit in Italy, for some reason or other)

Henry Darrow, "The High Chaparral" and "Zorro & Son"

Natasha Henstridge, "SheSpies" and "Commander-In-Chief"

Interesting coincidence considering that Ryan O' Neal was one of the major stars of Peyton Place, and was the male lead in the feature film version of Paper Moon, along with Madeline Kahn and his daughter Tatum.

I may be somewhat ignorant on this but were Zorro and Son, Paper Moon and Command-In-Chief Sitcoms? I believe the title is From Dramas To Sitcoms.

I am quite certain someone will chime in.

Thank you in advance for setting me straight.

..."Zorro and Son" and "Paper Moon" were comedies. "Commander-in-Chief" was a drama, but the other show I listed for Natasha Henstridge, "SheSpies," was an adventure sitcom during its first season...

...plus, Addie Pray is the only female lead character of a major movie in the '70s to be played by two Oscar winners, Tatum O'Neal (movie) and Jodie Foster (television)...

George Clooney, who has already been mentioned in this thread, was also in The Facts of Life toward the end of its run, and also played "Falconer" in Sisters. And one of his co-stars in Sisters, Swoosie Kurtz, was also in a sitcom (was it Love, Sidney?) with Tony Randall back in the early '80s.

Yes she was on Love Sydney. Also on Silver Spoons John Houseman played Richard's Sr. Dad. and on the Hogan Family John Hillerman who use to be on Magnum PI played grandpa Hogan.

Another show to add to Patrick Duffy's list, "The Man From Atlantis"...it was meant to be a drama, but for some, I think it was a comedy!

If you can find a book called "TV Turkeys," you'll
find "Man From Atlantis" very prominently mentioned.

Andrew Duggan had two dramas ("Bourbon Street Beat"
and "Lancer") and one sitcom ("Room For One More");
the sitcom also starred Mickey Rooney's son Tim, but
lasted only a few months on ABC in 1962.

You could count William Windom; he co-starred with
the late Inger Stevens in "The Farmer's Daughter," then
went on to be a virtual regular on "Murder, She Wrote."
(BTW, did anyone know that at one point CBS was thinking
of dropping "Murder, She Wrote" and putting Angela Lansbury
in a sitcom version of "Driving Miss Daisy"? Thankfully, they
didn't; I don't think the public would have bought it.)
