Actual West Wing news?

The new TV Guide just out yesterday says that Rob Lowe may be a part of a West Wing final episode, and that this might be West Wing's final season.

But I wonder if they are getting that from an inside source or from the buzz on message boards like this one.

Given that in the show's plotline, they're into the Fall campaign to elect the successor to the President Bartlett character, it would make a lot of sense to end "West Wing" next May, with the final scene of the final episode being the swearing-in of Bartlett's successor.

Yes, the ratings have stunk since the show moved to Sunday nights this past September, but even if they were stronger, I really think "West Wing" will come to an end next May for the reasons outlined above.

Why?
Who said they can't have a show with a different president?
I was looking forward to maybe seeing how they would do things with a Republican administration.

Joseph, other than ratings, you assume WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAYYYY to much about what that show is about. In my opinion, this is solely about ratings.
TV Guide gave the first hint about this being the shows end. And even then, it is STILL only in rumor phase (thus the question mark in the subject line).

Why are you in such a rush to stick a fork in this show, anyway?
