Ad on AJC's Front Page

I realize this is not about radio. But has anyone noticed the ad on the front page of section A in the AJC today? Target becomes the first ever advertiser to do that.

Times are tough, and newspaper has been hit probably even harder than radio. Media companies have to be innovative to attract business. I guess it's really no different than someone sponsoring a newscast on the radio. But somehow, it looks strange in the venerable medium that newspaper is.

Nothing new here. 100 years ago the Sunday editions of the Atlanta Constitution's front page was routinely plastered with advertising. For example, on Sunday, February 14, 1909, there were ads for a furniture store and another advertising "Classy new suits" for just $19.75 and $ 25.00.

Wow...you're older than I am.

He was right, too. They had a brief flash of greatness when Kovacs was Editor, so they ran him off. Straight to Harvard.

While doing some research on radio listings in the early 1950's Gainesville Times, I came across an ad for a "new" miracle plant from Africa that would quickly eliminate erosion. The price was affordable.

That's right - Kudzu.
