Adam Carolla replacing Stern at the Planet?

LARadio.com says "Howard Stern claims Adam Carolla is replacing him in L.A. and San Diego." Other Monday news reports had Stern saying "Carolla will take over Stern's show in the Los Angeles market and [David Lee] Roth in New York."

and this was right after Stern ran a LONG bit about being fired?
He's just having fun at Infinity's expense...I guess.
"guess" is the key word here...<P ID="signature">______________

I think they should have picked Bob Hudson...

By the way, very astute comments about Roger. I've often wondered the same things myself!

I have to admit that the three years I spent on the Planet morning show were lots of fun - I guess I could come up with some doody, caca, booby jokes to uphold the new standards.

Hey! Here's a novel idea! How about, god forbid, playing music in the morning after stern's gone!

Music intensive morning shows often get poor ratings. Plus if they want to keep any of the Stern fans (That don't go to Sirius), they will have to do it through personality.

Keep in mind though that Stern's rap for the past 25 years has been that he is the only funny radio personality. speaking as a former stern fan, anyone who is still listening to him now has swallowed this idea hook, line and sinker and they will not stay tuned to whoever replaces him no matter who it is. they will go looking for something else to listen to. I imagine that part of the reason why music-intensive morning shows get low ratings is because anybody who still wants to hear music in the morning, (a real rarity on terrestrial radio), has already abandoned it for I-Pods, satellite radio, or CDs. Terrestrial radio has driven music fans away by overloading the dial with way too much talking. It's not that people don't like music anymore, (Reference the huge popularity of I-Pods), it's that terrestrial radio has made it so hard for music fans to find music that they have gone elseware.

That makes sense to me.

It'd be like Art Bell's "replacement"

True, not many would hang around for a grade B replacement.

youre wrong

the ppl who listen to CDs (burned and legit) in the morning listen to their own music all day. talk on morning radio didnt drive them away, commercials and boring playlists did.

Re: why arent u a stern fan anymore?

A fair question. I grew up in New Jersey. I remember when stern was on WNBC. I couldn't stand him. But then, sometime in the mid 80s, after he moved to 92.3 K-rock, I really started to love his program. by the early 90s, once Billy West had joined the show, every day was a non-stop laugh riot. between jackie, Fred, and Billy, there was plenty of hilarity to go around along with stern's antics. There are two main reasons why I am no longer a stern fan.

#1. I now find his act to be old and tired. I am sure that this is partly because I had been listening to him for so long, but honestly, how many times can you hear him rant and rave about how he is a target of this administration, or that administration? On the few occasions I have tuned him in, I just say to myself, "Oh, he said that same thing ten years ago."

#2. I am not sure why I even care about this, but Stern has become the exact person who he used to ridicule: the insanely rich older guy who runs around with women half his age and sucks up to other celebrities, and who has completely lost touch with reality because he has so much money.

agree with u on both points

1. he does go off on how he is a target by bush, conservative media watchdog groups, etc. but the reality is, he is a target.

2. u cant have that kind of fame and that kind of money without selling out and becoming part of the establishment. u just cant.

I wonder what 91X would think of that?

Since 91X has run Loveline for so many years, and given Adam recognition and credibility in the market, would 91X not have first right of refusal for any kind of new show he's going to go on, mornings or otherwise?

If I were 91X, I'd be pissed if all of a sudden the syndicator yanked him off the show I'd been carrying and stuck him on another show that happens to be carried by another company.

I wonder if there's something in the Loveline affiliate contract that speaks to reassignment of talent?

I think Adam could be a huge draw in the market in morning drive. If I were CC, even if the LMA with 91X is going to be dissolved, I would still pitch a bitch just to try to keep the move from happening. Then again, maybe there's nothing they can do about it.
