Adam Carolla

Does anyone know what happened to Adam Carolla on KYCY? It was "best of" last week and this week Rob Black has been doing morning....

His contract with CBS-San Francisco expired. And the KYCY management rather have some financial show on versus carrying Adam, to pull rank on their own bosses. They're mad the show was "dumped" onto "their" station.

The former Free FM shows, Adam, Leykis and Opie & Anthony are only on the a.m. station until their CBS contracts run out in SF. The word is CBS sent them there "to die." Although these shows have boosted KYCY's rating almost by 50%

Don't mean to be a scrooge, but doubling 2-to-4 is still doubling...

Seriously, how many more listeners did he rake in?

The station was struggling.... I mean how many Finance shows does one station really need? They just never really promoted their big name jocks. I wonder if they plan to air more podcasting... You can't really tell me that programming will bring in more listeners....

Maybe Adam Corolla can join Dr. Drew as a co-host on the new KGIL 1260 and 540? Huge signals from Mexico to L.A. to Las Vegas.

Or maybe they could hire programmers and management who understand radio and know what the hell they're doing. Just a thought...

Was Carolla cancelled in L.A., too? I thought it was just a matter of no longer being carried on 1550 here.

Agreed. Also with the Free FM shows taking over about 6-10 hours (10 with Adam) of prime daytime programming (6am-12am) that helped the ratings. Since there was/is 6 hours less of redundant paid programming finance junk.

AMFMDJ, when you write "that programming," as in podcasting? If so, I agree podcasting won't be able to bring in more listeners. I think less of the boring finance, real estate, whatever junk will help.

But the station has always struggled and isn't a huge issue to me.

Adam Carolla is still on in LA. I think Sacramento too.

So what you're saying is that KYCY management (in essence, Mike Preston, Steve DiNardo, et al.) is mad at Joel Hollander for dumping Carolla on them?

Hollander created the magic that is Free FM, didn't he? And he's gone, isn't he?

I don't think that any of the CBS/SF stations operate in a vacuum (even tiny KYCY, with its one tiny studio buried deep in the CBS complex), and I certainly don't think anyone in a management position at CBS/SF would even think of "pulling rank" on Dan Mason or CBS corporate. Jobs in radio are too precious these days to "pull rank" over something so insignificant.

No, what I'm saying is Jon Russell, the program director of KYCY and Stephen Page, the KYCY Station Manager are mad about having the shows dumped on them.

Mike Preston has nothing to do with KYCY and its programming. We all know Dan Mason is out of New York and hardly comes to SF.

I do like your choice of words "something so insignificant," which is a decent description of 1550 AM KYCY. Which in turn allows both Jon Russell and Stephen Page to make such changes and to air what they do. I agree jobs in radio are too precious.

Aside from creating Free FM, Joel Hollander didn't have anything to do with the decision to move the shows to KYCY.

On a sidenote, just to clear it up...

Gregory Nemitz is the Vice President/General Manager, of Alice and KYOU/KYCY

*below, nothing to do with KYCY
Steve DiNardo is the VP/GM of Live 105 and 106.9 Classic Hits
Mike Preston is the Executive Producer for KFRC and PD of movin 997
