He was just reaching out to XL's target demographic! LMAO

It just makes me wonder who else in our market slips by without being caught. Man, what a dumb move to make.

Re: Flori- DUH!

"Man, what a dumb move to make".

I agree. I'd love to ask Adam if losing everything and becoming a registed sex offender is worth a 14 year beaver. Good God man... give it four years and keep it legal.

Re: Flori- DUH!

"Wheeler arrived at Hernando Beach Park, a county park, at 12:45 p.m. Tuesday. The area was under surveillance by the sheriff's special investigations unit. Wheeler got out of his 2000 Chevy Blazer sport utility vehicle and walked toward the bathroom area, where he was approached by detectives and taken into custody, according to the report."

In Citrus County at 12:45 PM on Tuesday? Guess he had the day off. As far as I'm concerned he can enjoy the rest of his life off as well. What an idiot. I mean, how stupid can you be? And to think this guy's been working around listeners of this age for what.... at least 10 years at WXXL alone.

gee

makes one wonder how many other victims there are? Usually with this sort of thing, the latest occourence is just the tip of the iceberg.

Tragic and stupid at the same time.

Well he did a lot more than just "reaching out". Can you say "Hook, Line And Sinker"?

One gets the feeling that this latest shocker will put a blemish on WXXL, and especially on Mr. Cook, whose programming career has just come to a disastorous end.

Tomorrow morning ... 8am. You might be interested!

Not saying he(Adam)didn't error in judgment, but I don't feel it's right for Law enforcement officials to bait traps.
Adam is a hell of a nice guy, and was gonna give me a gig after a PD in Orlando (who deserves the treatment Adams getting) screwed me over.
I'm sure there'll be some smart ass lil' comments to my posting. Comments that directly reflect the state and mentality of our business today. So go for it.
Otherwise, if you've ever worked for Adam, or were ever effected by something positive Adam and XL ever did for the public, then I say we cut the guy some slack.

I cannot get over this. Ever since the first phone call I got about this at 10:15am today I've been thinking "why".

I feel terrible for his wife and kids. I can only imagine his mug shot is all over TV and the story is EVERYWHERE.

I guess you never know somebody 100% but after working with him for four years, I couldn't imagine Adam being in volved in something like this. Truly sad.

I hope this was the first time he's done this and not the first time he got caught. I'd like to think that the good news is that a child didn't get molested. Because that's the only way I think the story could be worse, well that and if he'd thought he was talking to a 14 year old boy.

I don't know Adam or anyone at XL and don't really know how much he and the station have done for the community (I'm from out of the market).

HOWEVER

1. A grown man shouldn't be chasing after a 14-year-old.
2. If he has to go after 14-year-olds, he should know that cops have been baiting these types of predators IN THE EXACT SAME FASHION since the internet was born.
3. If you're going to chase after 14-year-olds in internet chat rooms, YOU DO NOT USE YOUR AIR NAME AND STATION'S FREQUENCY AS YOUR USER NAME!

In short: DUMB, DUMBER, DUMBERERERERERERERERER.

No matter what he has done in the past, this is what most people will remember him for. Sad but true. Instead of a few minutes alone with a stiff sock, he went out of his way to do this and has destroyed his life.

say what?

So that makes it OK to actually take the bait? If it was your kid he possibly molested, would you feel the same? Hopefully, this is an isolated incident. Unfortunately, it usually ends up being the tip of the iceberg.

Being "a hell of a nice guy who was gonna give me a gig" is absolutely no excuse for what HE CONFESSED TO POLICE he did. The real world is littered with people considered "nice people" who in their private little worlds operated as scumbags.

Shame on you for defending or excusing such behavior.

Re: say what?

agreed! this issue is very clear cut. you "cut someone slack" when they run a yellow light, not an adult who is trying to bang a 14 yr old.

also authorities wouldn't be "baiting" people if there wasn't just cause. sadly, there are alot of these types of predators, both male and female, online nowadays. authorities are trying to protect young people who can't defend themselves

and lastly, the guy who posted about never truly knowing someone is right. didnt we just go over that subject two summers ago with kobe bryant.

Same thing happened to Jim Fox in Cincy about 5 years ago. He had a #1 morning show until that problem. WLW tried putting him on later to do talk but they had too many protests. The truth is this sort of thing happens and has happened for years, even before the internet. 99% of the time it doesn't become front page news.

Re: say what?

How dare you even suggest that I defended what he did.
I said he errored in judgment.
I in NO WAY defended or excused what he did.

I do NOT agree with law enforcement baiting a trap for someone, and I certainly think that 14 year olds should be kept off the net knowing what is out there to access (quite easily I might add).

Although in this case the 14 year old is fictitious, parents have got to start taking on some accountablity too. The net is no place for anyone under 18. Period.

Happy New Year Adam!
