Adam Cook: Question

> Has Clear Channel fired Adam Cook? If not, why?
>
The vultures are circling already.

I would hope that whatever Clear Channel is going to do, they're taking a deliberate and dignified approach. Adam Cook has given them close to six years of loyal service.

Question

Taking a CD home is one thing- he put himself in this jackpot and put the company at risk by his actions (not to mention what this must be doing to his family).

Six or sixteen years of "loyal service" has nothing to do with this type of situation (which he admitted to police he was a part of).

WXXL Changes

It's official, he's out. Not that we couldn't see that coming from a mile away. What an idiot, I don't even think I need to elaborate. You have to wonder how this is going to reflect upon the station itself, and what things have been like around the CC-Orlando office the past few days. I'm doubting they've made any mention of the situation on the air (or off, for that matter), right?

Anyway... apparently Jana is acting PD at the moment while the search begins. Any possibilities as to who might get the permanent gig? I wonder if they could give it to Jana. She has previous PD experience (at the late WZNY-Augusta), so that could be cool.

More like two days. He was arrested on Tuesday.

And keep in mind, the company doesn't just find out their employee is arrested and say "You're fired!" 10 minutes later, and that's the end of it. There's more to it than that, and I'm sure things are complicated with the terminated party is in custody.

Question

Two days, actually. He got busted Tuesday.

Re: WXXL Changes

What do you all think about the effect on the name of the station?...i mean, lets be honest...this COULD be the end of XL106.7...maybe not the format...but at the very least the end of the name XL106.7...the image portrayed by this is SO bad...i mean...would YOU let your daughter go to an XL106.7 event now?...that isnt a slam against the other jocks on XL...but seriously...people are human, and will always carry negative connotation on the station and the name XL106.7...

in a world where all things come to an end...maybe this is the BITTER end of XL106.7...

An interesting point. I wouldn't rule it out at this point, but we'll have to see. You're absolutely right, after seeing this story on the news, you think someone is just going to up and say "Let's go party with XL!", much less allow their young'ns to be subjected to that.

Like you said, this by no means a fault of Jana, Chad, Stick, D&J, or anyone else at the station, but when people think XL, they'll think "Oh yeah, that dude who got arrested for trying to have sex with a 14-year-old." So while I don't think any formatic changes would be happening, the station may re-image themselves somewhat. It would be a shame, since XL 106.7 carries so much heritage in the market...

Thanks to the actions of its now-former programmer, the CC-Orlando staff and new PD, whoever it may be, will have QUITE a mess to clean up, I'll tell you that.

Particularly with large organizations, the termination process takes some time. When folks are let go for "budget reasons" all the paperwork and record-keeping that are required for compliance reasons have already been done. In the case of a sudden "for cause" event, there are attorneys to consult and paperwork and notices that have to be done and given. Smaller businesses don't bother, but a company as larger as CCU has systems and processes in place that must be followed. I am sure he was told the day of his arrest that he wasn't going to be continuing on.

Re: Question

Good points and probably 99.9% true re: the way it's done with major companies

I agree as well! Few things disgust me more that a grown person (I DON'T CARE IF IT IS A MAN OR A WOMAN!) having sex with a child!

(I was going to say more, but I didn't want to close this trend as well.)
