That's going to be interesting. I think Marshall will do a good job if his hands aren't tied behind his back.

You're suppossed to type "LOL" after a comment like that!

I tend to think when this all shakes out, KDKA will be a different station. Possibly a news operation with syndicated talk shows filling the "off" hours.

Whatever balances the books at CBS. At this point I might seriously consider selling.

If that's the case, then this might be a good opportunity for Saul Frischling to consider buying. He had apparently looked at KD before when it was first put up for sale in the early 90's. I know Steel City Media can take it further than where it is now. They've already proven their success in this market.

Even at what might be wickedly reduced prices next year Saul probably couldn't afford it. They'd have to sell to another group to get the money they would want. Having said that I'd still list it and see what happens. I just don't see a bright future there any longer.

Oh, I think he could if he really wanted it. He's got his radio properties in Pittsburgh, the City Paper, and his radio properties in St. Louis. It's very cheap to borrow money these days, and Saul's not one to overpay. Plus, he's been in the radio ownership business for 22 years now. He's not one to foolishly spend money and get himself over his head in debt. Privately-held companies that grow slowly are the ones that generally have the deeper pockets.

Even if he could (he reallycan't) why would he? Would you want a station that's as broken as KD? Where would you start? The transmitter issues? The HD problem that's killed your nighttime signal? The tsunami of red ink headed your way because there is no baseball to set the table for your morning show anymore? The median age of your listeners (64)?

There is no real player in this market that is in the position to buy KD at anywhere near what its asking price would be.

Where there's a will, there's a way. I've heard lots of good ideas on this board on what kinds of talk shows could work in Pittsburgh, and no one's doing any of them right now.

If I were going to entrust KD's success to anyone in this market, it would be to Saul Frischling or Tony Renda.
