Her performance on the VMA's may have had something to so with it as it was certainly one the the highlights of the show.

Several artists seem to have received a requisite iTunes chart bump from performing at the VMAs. Adele's song is certainly deserving, though, as she probably had the best (and consequently, least awkward) performance of the night. (I found it to be a horribly produced show)

As far as chart performance goes, I don't think this single is as strong as "Rolling in the Deep", which had multi-week #1 written all over it. I think she will crack the top 15 but probably not the top 10.

No1 on the Billboard Hot100 next week!

Just how relevant is the Billboard Hot 100 when it comes to airplay on CHRs? For example they have about 10 country songs every week in the Hot 100 Top 40 but you NEVER hear them on any CHR.

I liked "Rolling in the Deep," but this song does nothing for me. I think the vocals are a bit too "whiny" and piercing in this one.

Which is exactly why I don't understand why they still call CHR "Top 40".....it hasn't been Top 40 for a long time now.

The people who call it Top 40 aren't in radio, and are just casual listeners, unlike all of us. People in the business know that a format that encompassed the top 40 songs according to a chart like Billboard's Hot 100 would be a trainwreck and a sales nightmare- it pretty much always has been. Yes, there have been times when variety has been more prevalent at CHR, but largely, you have to keep the format tight to keep people listening. The roll out of PPM has vindicated and strenghtened this argument, as CHR has been one of the formats that has show an increase in share since its rollout.

I think she has a good chance of cracking the Top 5 with this one actually. Adele is HUGE right now with females.

I hope that was a comment on her popularity... ;)

I still don't see this song making waves at CHR, though. As you said, Adele is HUGE (no pun intended) with females right now. I don't see males appreciating this song like "Rolling in the Deep". Maybe the call out numbers will prove me wrong. "RITD" was a multi-format hit, and spoke to the song's popularity with a number of demographics. I don't see that happening with that song and I think it will show in its performance at CHR.

Huh?

It's up from #34-#20 on the CHR chart, with a bullet of +1204

34 20 ADELE Someone Like You 3011 1807 1204 16.668

In my defense, the chart had not reflected the surge when I wrote that post, and I have yet to hear it on CHR here in Los Angeles, so I was just surmising based on personal opinion.

Obviously, I was wrong, though.
