Adios Jay Beau

CHR's gotta happen, somebody's gotta do it. It's been what... 20 some years since somebody challenged Kiss 108? There is no reason CBS Radio shouldn't be wiping the floor with Kiss. Better resources, better promotions. Greater Media could do the same thing! Greater just tends to go with more "older" formats, that's the only reason I doubt they'd go CHR.

>Barry, you've never had a nice thing to say about Jay Beau, Strassell, Hannon or Brian Thomas.

You know, I was told by one of those guys above never to post or read anything on this disgruntled, out of work, mean-spirited radio board--dominated by people who hide behind their identities and make up facts. What you have made up above is simply a load of "I am terminally unemployed in radio" crap. Congrats on reaching a new low. Strassell is my mentor and the best Programmer I have ever worked for; seeing your unkind words just reveals who you are. Congrats!

I guess they were right. Adios.

Oh please, just grow up already...

Did you ever make it past 5th grade?

I rest my case.

lol - Rest your case then, anonymously. You remind me of the lion from Oz, albeit a bit more cowardly.

We all have our respective binkies. Barry's is Greg, mine happens to be John/Jaybeau. Both are really nice guys, both are really talented guys, but something wasn't working.

'Respective Binkies?' OK. ha. As I said in my first post in this very discussion: "I found Jay Beau to be a pro as well."

Some people just born haters and troublemakers. Just read this thread and you'll see who that is. You'd know their name too if they weren't so cowardly.

I've worked for JayBeau twice and would jump at the chance to do so again. (Well, to be fair, I'm on the beach, so...)
He's demanding and expects a lot. Made me a better morning guy. Judging from most of these comments, he's a well respected PD around here which is good to see.
BTW...Barry Scott...one of the good guys for sure.

Jay worked for me as a PD a number of years ago. I agree he was demanding and set very high standards for his people. But they met those standards and the station was incredibly successful.

One other thing a previous poster touched upon. Look at the talent level of three programmers who are/have left CBS in the last couple of months. Kurt Johnson leaves Dallas, last week, Buddy Scott announced he's leaving after only 18 months or so and now Jay Beau is gone. This string of circumstances gives pause to wonder if the CBS game is to replace the long term employees who make big dough with folks making less money. Certainly it's not the first time this has happened. It's just a surprise to see it happen at CBS with talent like Buddy, Jay and Kurt. Perhaps all the releases are true (we know Kurt has another gig), but the coincidence of timing?!?!? Have to wonder.

Was Jay Beau known as Jay Dowd on WHTT back in the 1980s or was this another on-air personality?

Same guy! he was "johnny dowd" at JB105 WPJB Providence, then went up to WHTT. Went to Kiss in Hartford, did some time in Chicago, then Worcester. A stint at Z100, I know I'm missing some other pieces.

Really? I have known them both for almost 20 years and find no truth to that statement whatsoever. Did you ever actually WORK for them? The team they assemble is usually top notch. I found Jay Beau to be a pro as well.

It's not an indictment, Barry. I have not worked for Greg Strassell, but I'm friends with those who have (stop me if you've heard this one before.) My buddy said "he's the bad cop." That's fine. It's a fun job, but it's still not a playground. I can respect a hard-ass boss. It takes a special kind to deal with one.

I've never met Greg, but his wife has attended my trivia nights several times. She's a nice lady.

As for the pissing match in this thread, I thought the unwritten rule was that if you used a handle (which is certainly justifiable and expected for the purposes of job security), you didn't attack somebody who actually uses their real name. Guess not.

Pretty sure Greater Media wouldn't be blowing up its FM talk station to make room for Top40 in the presidential election year where they stand to make tons of cash from campaign spots. Let's not be stupid.

Honestly, with the exception of Karson With A K, almost anyone who uses their real name on here always has GLOWING things to say about EVERYONE.

And Greater Media does not do Top 40 well. It has to be CBS. They just keep sleeping on it. Tragedy.
