No, you install it (about two minutes) reboot (about 45 seconds) and start recording.

Pro Tools does not "frequently crash;" your experience with it must either have been prior to Mac OS X or - more than likely - with a PC. The last crash I had was over a year ago and I caused it to happen by putting a plug in in the wrong folder. I've only ever seen one post on Digidesign's forums about "tokens"; it's not really an issue.

IS THERE A PC FRIENDLY PROGRAM?!?! Or better yet, is there a friendly PC? I mean, you're talking about an operating system that's legendary for its crashes, freezes, refusal to install applications, worms, viruses, etc. Why even bother? BTW, it's "Mac," not "MAC."

Since I'm doing mostly VO stuff, some complete spots and a little music, I don't need to stay on the upgrade treadmill; I anticipate that I can continue to run PT 6.1 on this computer for a few years still - and I've had it since the summer of 2003. You still see a lot of people running PT on OS 9 (and a lot of video houses, too, still run Media 100 and others on OS 9). Constantly upgrading is only for those who need to always be on the cutting edge; that's a personality trait, not sound business practice. I've got a ton of free plug ins, too (both RTAS and VST), so I can do anything with my rig that the super-smokin' image guy at your local InfiniChannel with the Waves bundle can.

A good production can be done simply and more quickly with Pro Tools; Audition's editing is still too clunky. It also costs $349 now, plus sound card; it makes the $400 Mbox with free Pro Tools LE software look all the more appealing.
